Responsible for the proper storage, preparation, use, and disposal of food products according to industry standards, and applicable health and safety regulations. Assists with inventory management, donation processing, and services that advance the organization's mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in preparing menus and meals Oversees nightly meal service Thoroughly cleans and disinfects kitchen, supplies and dining facilities Maintains kitchen supplies and food stock for meal service Coordinates with warehouse staff regarding food and program inventory Receives and processes donated items Assists in record-keeping and reporting on inventory, programs and services Secures property nightly as directed or delegates authority as appropriate Supports empowerment services as needed Provides cross-functional support to other departments and programs as needed
Essential Performance Skills:
Responsible for all areas of nightly meal service on scheduled days, which might include preparation of healthy, hot meals for approximately three hundred guests Treats guests with dignity and compassion, assuring each guest feels welcome and dignified Follows food handling and storage practices according to acceptable industry and organizational standards Provides direction and oversight to volunteers to ensure a positive and productive service experience Engages volunteers throughout time of service providing an excellent experience Receives, sorts, logs, stores and rotates stock for all programs and services Serves as back-up support for warehouse, pantry and empowerment programs Adhere to all food safety policies Able to work independently and as part of a team High degree of attention to detail Demonstrates prudent critical thinking skills Performs other duties as assigned
Required Experience and Background:
Desire to work in support of our mission to feed, clothe and empower our neighbors in need High School diploma or GED equivalent Must have a valid AZ Driver's License Food Handler's Card (or ability to acquire one upon start)
Preferred Experience and Background:
Experience with food service/commercial kitchen Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment Experience collaborating with volunteers Current Food Manager's Card (ServSafe) or ability to obtain Familiarity with community resources for the homeless
Working Conditions:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds Ability to reach overhead and move inventory safely Ability to work in kitchen, warehouse, pantry, and outdoor environments as needed Ability to work evenings, weekends, and special events when required
