Job Description

Job Overview The Inventory Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels within the lumber yard by physically counting stock, managing incoming deliveries, pulling orders for customers, and ensuring proper storage and organization of lumber and building materials, often utilizing inventory management software to track stock levels and identify discrepancies; this role involves a strong understanding of different lumber types and sizes, as well as other building materials.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform regular cycle counts to verify stock accuracy, identifying and resolving discrepancies between physical inventory and system records. Inspect incoming deliveries against purchase orders, verifying quality and quantity, and properly storing lumber based on type and size. Occasionally pull customer orders from inventory, accurately selecting the required lumber and building materials, and staging them for pickup or delivery. Ensure returns are restocked or returned to suppliers and credit is received from suppliers. Keep the lumber yard organized, clean, and accessible by properly stacking materials and managing storage areas. Update inventory management systems with received and shipped quantities, tracking stock levels and generating reports. Assist customers with product selection, providing information on building materials and occasionally loading materials onto vehicles.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent communication skills with lumber yard workers, purchasing department, and outside vendors. Basic understanding of inventory procedures, including cycle counting and data entry. Proficient in Microsoft Office and keyboarding skills. Knowledge of various lumber types, sizes, grades, and applications. High level of accuracy in counting and recording inventory data. Extremely organized and able to work with minimum supervision. Ability to develop professional relationships with outside vendors. Able to physically work on-site at the Edgerton, WI location. Ability to perform basic math calculations.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience with computerized inventory systems required. Forklift operation certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. Must be able to navigate lumber yard and reach items both high and low.
