Yard & Dock Operations Schedule:
Monday - Friday (Day Shift; flexibility required based on barge schedules) Position Overview We are seeking a dependable, safety-conscious Class A CDL Yard Driver & Dock Freight Handler for our freight facility in San Pedro. This is a 100% yard- and dock-based role handling local maneuvers and cargo transfers to and from our barges serving Catalina Island. You will manage trailer positioning in tight staging areas, operate forklifts, and secure heavy freight for maritime transit.
Key Responsibilities Terminal & Dock Operations:
Safely drive and position Class A vehicles, yard tractors, and trailers within tight yard spaces and loading docks.
Cargo Handling:
Transfer heavy bulk, palletized freight, and equipment between trucks, staging areas, and barges.
Equipment Operation:
Operate heavy-duty forklifts and material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
Freight Securement:
Load flatbeds and specialized trailers using straps, chains, binders, and blocking to withstand ocean transport.
Compliance:
Complete thorough pre- and post-trip equipment inspections and maintain required operational logs.
Requirements License:
Valid Class A CDL with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Security:
Active Transportation Worker Identification Credential ( TWIC ) or ability to obtain one prior to start.
Screening:
Must pass a pre-employment DOT physical and mandatory drug screen.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, secure heavy loads, and work outdoors in coastal weather conditions.
Work Ethic:
Reliable attendance, strong attention to safety, and effective communication skills.
