Performs a variety of unskilled work and assists with semi-skilled maintenance and repair work and operates a variety of equipment to assist the department personnel.Essential Functions:
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Assists with basic preventative maintenance and repair of City street and storm drainage systems and may assist in the operation of light equipment requiring semi-skilled manipulation of controls and attachments in maneuvering for safe and efficient operations. 2. Participates in a work crew or assists work crew activity of other equipment operators. 3. Operate City vehicles and equipment as assigned 4. Performs various miscellaneous work on streets as assigned. 5. Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards. 6. Periodic overtime work. 7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. 8. Interact tactfully and effectively with those encountered in the course of the work, including public officials, the general public, and hostile and irate citizens. 9. Ability to work steadily and quickly. 10. Understand and follow instructions, both oral and written. 11. Use sound independent judgment within established procedures and regulations. 12. Regular, reliable, predictable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position. 13. Compliance with all City of Ravenna city-wide and departmental policies, work rules and procedures. 14. Performs other duties related to those of the position and/or resulting from the needs of the organization as required by Street Superintendent or designee.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:
1. Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. 2. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver's License. 3. Must have knowledge of and skill in the effective and safe operation of departmental automotive equipment in traffic and in and around work crew areas. 4. Must have the ability to keep records such as time spent on a job and the materials used. 5. Must have the ability to work an irregular schedule and under adverse conditions and to respond to emergency and routing call-outs. 6. Must have the ability to lift and carry heavy loads. 7. Must have an appreciation of safety considerations and the need for quality work performance. 8. Ability to interact tactfully and effectively with those encountered in the course of the work, including public officials, the general public and hostile and irate citizens. 9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with City employees and officials and the general public. 10. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. 11. Ability to work alone or with other personnel. 12. Ability to use sound independent judgment within established procedures and regulations. 13. Ability to work steadily and quickly. 14. Knowledge of basic geographic layout of the City.Work Environment:
