Position Summary:
The Driver / Material Handler is a flexible, hands-on team member responsible for supporting daily driving, materials, logistics, kitting, manufacturing, assembly, receiving, and inventory needs. This role helps keep production moving by preparing and transporting parts and materials, supporting weld and production kits, assisting with basic manufacturing tasks including saw shed material cutting, and machine assembly.
Essential Job Function:
Driving, Pickups, and Deliveries Drive company vehicles, including truck and trailer when required, for pickups and drop-offs. Load, secure, transport, and unload parts, materials, and equipment safely. Verify pickup and delivery paperwork for accuracy before leaving or accepting materials. Communicate professionally with vendors, customers, drivers, and internal team members. Maintain cleanliness, organization, inspection logs, mileage logs, and vehicle records for company truck, trailer, and related equipment. Report vehicle maintenance needs, damage, or safety concerns promptly. Kitting and Production Support Kit parts and materials for production orders according to drawings, bills of materials, job travelers, and work instructions. Prepare weld kits for the welding department, ensuring correct parts, quantities, and supporting paperwork are included. Stage materials for pickup, delivery, production, welding, assembly, or other internal needs. Identify and communicate shortages, discrepancies, damaged materials, or unclear paperwork to the appropriate supervisor or department. Support departments as needed to keep production moving efficiently. Assembly and Manufacturing Support Provide general manufacturing support throughout the shop as assigned. Cut material at the saw shed according to drawings, cut lists, job paperwork, or supervisor instruction. Stage cut material for production, welding, assembly, or delivery. Assist with basic assembly and pre-assembly tasks Follow drawings, job paperwork, work instructions, and supervisor direction to prepare parts and materials accurately. Material Handling and Receiving Receive incoming materials and verify quantities, part numbers, and paperwork against purchase orders, packing slips, or job requirements. Put materials away in designated storage areas in an organized, safe, and traceable manner. Assist with material identification, labeling, and organization to prevent damage, mix-ups, or loss of traceability. Assist with cycle counts, inventory accuracy, and reporting of inventory discrepancies. Help maintain accurate material locations and stock levels. Support organization of raw materials, finished parts, work-in-process, purchased components, receiving areas, storage areas, and staging areas.
  • Perform all work in accordance with AIT standards and procedures.
  • Present regular and predictable on-time attendance.
  • Maintain a time record of work performed in accordance with AIT procedures.
  • Assist in daily housekeeping and organization of the employee's work area.
  • Interpret written and verbal instructions including and machine assembly and part prints.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work area.
  • Perform other duties as required by management.
Job Requirements:
Experience:
1-2 years of job related experience
Skills:
Must display a high degree of maturity while keeping difficult situations in proper perspective.
Equipment to be used:
Typical industrial fabrication, assembly, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires sitting, standing, bending, climbing and reaching. Frequently requires lifting of 50-75 pounds and may require lifting over 100 pounds occasionally. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate above stated equipment and perform inspection using appropriate tools. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
Typical Mental Demands:
Must be able to analyze many variables and choose the most effective course of action. Must positively relate to and interact with co-workers, vendors and customers.
Working Conditions:
Typical warehouse and manufacturing setting. May be called upon to work out of town, overtime or odd schedules.
