What to Expect

The Optimus Planner will work closely with Optimus Program Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Contract Manufacturing partners, and the Service team to ensure Tesla's humanoid robot build plans are effectively set up to enable the factory to be successful. The Optimus Planner will be responsible for developing the bot and sub-assembly build plan, translating it into part-level demand, communicating it out to the organization, and managing all plan changes through a fast-moving ramp. This is a high-mix, low-volume, pre-ramp environment where the plan changes weekly and the constraint moves with it. The ideal candidate will appreciate an environment where superior work is encouraged, noticed, and rewarded. What You'll Do

Create weekly bot and sub-assembly build plans across pilot and production lines for the 0 to 13 week horizon, aligning with program targets, manufacturing engineering on line and station constraints, and supply chain on part availability, using Theory of Constraints and optimization to produce feasible, low-cost plans that hit the weekly bot mix and configuration targets

Run the clear-to-build analysis that turns on-hand and in-transit inventory into the number of complete bot sets the line can actually start, identify the binding constraint part each week, and publish the shortage and recovery list that drives expedites and CM pulls

Translate the bot ramp into part-level weekly demand through the BOM, maintain the demand plan that supply chain and the contract manufacturers order against, and reconcile planned versus actual consumption so yield loss, scrap, and retest units are reflected in the next plan rather than discovered at the line

Lead the cross-functional change process for issues inside the frozen window, building models to analyze options that minimize cost and protect the ramp when an actuator, PCBA, or structural line goes down, a supplier misses, or a program date moves

Coordinate the integration of new bot generations, design revisions, and engineering change cutovers into production, attending program and launch reviews to assess build and inventory impact, plan run-out of the outgoing revision, and ensure timing aligns with factory priorities

Own weekly, monthly, and quarterly status and performance reporting for management and stakeholders, pulling data from ERP, MOS, MFS, and the manufacturing data warehouse, visualized through internal planning tools and Tableau, and support executive ramp and S&OP reviews

Define business requirements, generate use cases, and communicate and prioritize capabilities with the planning and factory software teams so the supply, allocation, and coverage tooling keeps pace with the ramp instead of being rebuilt in spreadsheets What You'll Bring

Degree in Engineering, Economics, Business or Supply Chain Management, Computer Science, or equivalent experience

2+ years in Production Planning, Materials Management, Supply Chain, Operations Planning, NPI or ramp planning, or related fields. Experience in a prototype or early-ramp manufacturing environment strongly preferred

SQL proficiency required; Python or other programming experience preferred; mastery of Microsoft Excel essential. Comfort working directly with BOMs, part numbers, and manufacturing execution system data

Strong data analysis capability, including the ability to optimize a plan against constraints such as station capacity, cycle time, staffing, test yield, and material availability, and to explain in one page why the plan is what it is

Ability to work effectively under pressure, managing competing demands and tight deadlines where the answer is needed the same day and the underlying data is incomplete

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, combined with strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail; able to hold a single source of truth that engineering, supply chain, and leadership all work from

Expected Compensation

$76,000 - $156,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
