As a leading material sampling platform for the architecture and design industry, Swatchbox connects design professionals with thousands of products from top building product manufacturers while supporting smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable sampling workflows. As Swatchbox continues to grow, we are expanding our materials operations and cataloging capabilities to support a deeper, more accurate, and more useful material discovery experience for the design community. Position Overview Swatchbox is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Materials Specialist to support a growing material reclamation, reuse, and product cataloging initiative. This role is responsible for sorting, identifying, organizing, cataloging, and reporting on physical building product samples across a wide range of material categories. The Materials Specialist will evaluate reclaimed materials against established criteria, identify relevant product attributes, maintain accurate material records, and help determine the most responsible next step for each sample, whether returning it to active use, redirecting it to educational programs, or preparing it for recycling. This is a hands-on, high-impact role with a direct connection to Swatchbox's sustainability and green operations. By keeping viable samples in circulation and reducing the volume of material sent to landfills, this position will support waste diversion, carbon-reduction efforts, circular material workflows, and measurable environmental reporting across the building product industry. Communicate findings clearly to internal stakeholders. Help translate physical sample review into structured information that supports digital cataloging, product discovery, and internal reporting. Support special projects related to material research, catalog expansion, sustainability initiatives, and manufacturer representation.
