Job Description:
Student Transit, part of the Sodrel family of companies, is seeking a dependable and highly organized Transportation Assistant to join our Richmond team. Sodrel has been family-owned and operated for more than 100 years, providing the stability of a long-established company with a strong commitment to the communities we serve. This position provides administrative support to our school bus transportation operation and works closely with the Operations Manager and Transportation Coordinator. We're looking for someone who enjoys keeping things organized, follows through on details, and can take ownership of the day-to-day administrative needs of a busy office.
Responsibilities include:
Answer incoming phone calls and assist drivers, school personnel, parents, and others with routine transportation questions Use the Transportation Management System (TMS) to assist with daily transportation operations Monitor and communicate routine information related to route activity Maintain transportation, employee, and operational records Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and other documentation Assist with payroll and timekeeping information Track attendance, call-offs, PTO requests, and other employee information Assist with driver schedules, rosters, and related documentation Enter and update information accurately in company systems Prepare, scan, file, and maintain required paperwork Assist with new-hire and employee documentation Support accident, incident, training, and compliance documentation Coordinate routine communications with team members Assist with scheduling appointments, meetings, training, and other activities Answer phones and assist employees with routine questions Coordinate information and paperwork with HR, Payroll, Safety, Compliance, Training, and other departments Maintain an organized and efficient transportation office Provide additional administrative support to the Operations Manager and Transportation Coordinator as needed This is an important support role within our Richmond operation. The ideal candidate is someone who sees what needs to be done, stays ahead of deadlines, keeps accurate records, and can be trusted to follow tasks through to completion. Job Requirements:
Previous administrative, office, or similar experience preferred Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Comfortable working with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams Comfortable learning and using transportation management software and other computer-based systems Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond calmly to changing needs Dependable, professional, and able to work independently Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling employee information Transportation, school administration, payroll/timekeeping, or dispatch support experience is a plus, but not required
Wage Range:
20.00 - 23.00 per hour
