Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Freight & Logistics Coordinator to join our Steel Service team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of managing transportation, warehouse distribution, and procurement activities to ensure seamless flow of goods. Responsibilities Work with the Plant Superintendent and Project Managers to understand project shipping needs, delivery priorities, and jobsite requirements. Communicate with freight companies to schedule pickups, deliveries, trucks, and special transportation needs. Confirm load dates, delivery dates, addresses, jobsite contacts, and freight instructions. Coordinate freight shipments, including shipping & receiving, international trade compliance, and trade regulations adherence. Manage warehouse distribution processes, inventory control, and warehouse operations to ensure accurate stock levels and timely order fulfillment. Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and ERP systems such as AS400 or SAP to plan routes, schedule deliveries, and monitor transportation performance. Assist with tracking loads from Steel Service to the jobsite or delivery location. Communicate any freight delays, delivery issues, missing information, or schedule conflicts to the appropriate internal team members. Help ensure loads are coordinated in the proper order based on project schedule and customer needs. Work with shipping and production personnel to confirm materials are ready for loading. Coordinate with vendors, carriers, drivers, project managers, and internal departments regarding freight status. Implement warehouse management system (WMS) protocols for inventory management, stocking strategies, and manual handling procedures to maximize efficiency. Qualifications Proven 10 years of experience practicing in a supply chain operations role with a focus on freight logistics or warehouse management. Strong data analysis skills with proficiency in Excel spreadsheets, SQL queries, Tableau dashboards, and ERP systems such as AS400 or SAP. Hands-on warehouse experience including materials handling, shipping logistics, inventory control, and warehouse operations. Knowledge of transportation planning tools like TMS software and transportation management systems. Excellent negotiation skills with vendors and carriers; experience in procurement or sourcing is highly desirable. Ability to perform root cause analysis for process issues and implement continuous process improvements. Valid forklift certification or experience operating forklifts safely within a warehouse environment is preferred. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail. Effective communication skills for collaborating across teams in a fast-paced supply chain setting. Education Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or a related field required. Prior experience in freight, logistics, dispatch, shipping, transportation, steel fabrication, manufacturing, or construction-related coordination preferred. Experience working with freight companies, carriers, drivers, or shipment scheduling preferred. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally.
