A Production Planner plans and manages production and distribution processes for a company and identifies ways to improve efficiency. Analyzes work flows, plans and schedules orders, manages materials orders and monitors inventory; coordinates with suppliers and vendors.
Production Planner and Scheduler We are a North American Leader in the Fabrication sectors with operations across Canada, and the USA. We are a fully-integrated supplier of manufacturing and engineering services providing steel components and complex, high value-added assemblies for the agricultural, construction, mining, energy, heavy truck and industrial sectors. The Production Planner & Scheduler is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating production activities to ensure on-time delivery, optimal resource utilization, and smooth production flow. This role communicates with internal and external stakeholders to resolve material, capacity, and scheduling issues while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The Production Planner and Scheduler reports to the Materials Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Production Planning & Scheduling Create, monitor, and execute daily and weekly production schedules based on sales forecasts, plant capacity, and new business opportunities Schedule production activities considering material availability, manpower, and equipment capacity Assign production efficiently to minimize costs and meet delivery deadlines Identify and report plant capacity constraints or potential bottlenecks Adjust schedules to accommodate changes in demand or production priorities Inventory & Material Management Maintain parts and raw material inventories to support production requirements Ensure correct consumption of materials per BOM and prevent shortages, obsolescence, or excess inventory Early identification of material shortages and coordinate corrective actions with Materials, Purchasing, and Production teams Coordinate parts and process changes with Sales, Engineering, Production, and Accounting teams Reporting & Metrics Generate and publish weekly customer releases, production status, and delivery reports Prepare production performance reports including material yield, earned hours, capacity planning, and downtime Track schedule adherence and escalate issues as needed Shop Floor & Stakeholder Support Serve as a single point of contact for internal and external customers regarding production schedules Support shop floor material flow and internal logistics Oversee routine equipment maintenance scheduling to prevent production outages Support training and development of production staff to achieve production goals Compliance & Continuous Improvement Follow all operational procedures, quality standards, and environmental programs (e.g., IATF, ISO 14001) Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production planning and scheduling processes Other Duties Perform other responsibilities as assigned by Materials Manager or management Follows and comply with all Operational Procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs (i.e.

) Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Bachelor's degree or diploma in Materials Management, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience 5-7 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, and materials management in a manufacturing environment Strong ERP/MRP system knowledge (CMS experience a plus) Proficient in Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint Familiarity with lean concepts (Kanban, JIT, Kaizen) is an asset Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities Understanding of production flow, manufacturing processes, and capacity planning Effective communication and collaboration across multiple levels and departments Ability to prepare and present reports clearly
