Position Summary The Transportation Routing Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing daily transportation routes to ensure students are transported safely, efficiently, and on time. This position works closely with dispatchers, drivers, school personnel, families, and management to coordinate route assignments, accommodate student additions and removals, manage route changes, and maximize the efficient use of buses, vans, drivers, and other transportation resources. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working with routing technology and spreadsheets, and able to make quick decisions in a fast-paced school transportation environment. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesRouting & Scheduling Create and maintain efficient daily school transportation routes. Route students based on home address, school location, bell times, vehicle capacity, and transportation requirements. Determine the most efficient pickup and drop-off sequence. Review routes for unnecessary mileage, excessive ride times, and operational inefficiencies. Optimize routes as student enrollment and transportation needs change. Coordinate AM, PM, midday, after-school, and special transportation routes. Identify opportunities to combine or restructure routes while maintaining service quality. Maintain accurate turn-by-turn routing information. Student & Route Management Add new students to routes based on transportation requests received from schools or districts. Remove inactive students promptly. Maintain accurate student counts for each route. Track student pickup and drop-off locations. Identify students requiring specialized transportation accommodations. Ensure the appropriate vehicle is assigned based on student count and transportation requirements. Maintain accurate route rosters and communicate changes to the appropriate departments. Dispatch Support Work closely with dispatch to identify uncovered routes. Assist with determining which available drivers and vehicles can cover open routes. Monitor vehicle capacity when assigning or modifying routes. Help develop contingency plans for call-offs, vehicle breakdowns, route changes, and other operational issues. Provide dispatch with updated route information in a timely manner. Assist management with daily route coverage and operational planning. School & Driver Communication Communicate route changes, additions, removals, and timing adjustments to dispatch and management. Ensure drivers receive updated route information before changes take effect. Coordinate with school transportation personnel when route changes impact pickup or arrival times. Help investigate concerns involving missed pickups, late arrivals, incorrect addresses, or routing issues. Maintain professional communication with school districts, drivers, staff, and families when required. Routing Technology & Data Management •

MUST BE PROFICIENT IN TRANSFINDER ROUTING

Utilize transportation routing software, GPS systems, Microsoft Excel, and other technology to develop and maintain routes. Maintain accurate information on the company's dispatch and routing boards. Monitor GPS information to compare planned routes with actual driver performance. Use route data to identify opportunities to reduce mileage, drive time, and unnecessary vehicle usage. Maintain organized electronic records of routes, student assignments, and route changes. Produce routing reports and operational data as requested by management. Improve overall dispatch and routing efficiency. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred. Previous experience in transportation, logistics, dispatching, routing, school transportation, or fleet operations preferred. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Office. Experience with transportation routing or GPS software preferred. Strong geographic and mapping skills. Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple routes and priorities simultaneously. Strong attention to detail and data accuracy. Ability to communicate professionally with drivers, schools, families, and management. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
