Job Description
Howmz manufactures light-gauge steel panelized wall systems and prefabricated bathroom and mechanical pods, then installs them on site. We build houses in a factory. Every home we ship is a few thousand parts across 21 material categories, and all of it has to hit the floor in the right sequence for panels to leave the line on schedule.
- This is a newly created role.
- We have gone from about 10 people a year ago to roughly 25 today, and expect to be near 35 by the end of the year.
- We do not buy software; we build our own.
- You would sit with our software team, write the requirements, and define the planning logic for the MRP you then use every day. Most planners spend their careers working around a vendor's configuration screens — this is the job where you fix the tool instead.
- What you'll own
- Translate the sales and construction pipeline into a rolling 12-month material forecast, and run a weekly planning cadence with Operations, Product Development, and Sales
- Own bill-of-material accuracy, MRP runs, and planning parameters — lead times, safety stock, reorder points, lot sizes
- Place and manage purchase orders, confirm dates and quantities, and expedite what slips before it stops the line
- Run the shortage list daily and drive it to zero with recovery dates
- Own physical inventory: receiving, put-away, locations, cycle counts, and inventory accuracy
- Run kitting and staging so every panel and pod gets a complete kit at the right station on the right day
- Own the planning data model — part numbering, UOM discipline, category structure, supplier master — and the requirements for the MRP our software team builds
- Publish the numbers — material availability, inventory accuracy, turns, expedite freight — where the floor and leadership can see them
- What we're looking for
- 5-8+ years in material planning, production planning, or buying in a manufacturing environment — you have run MRP and lived with the consequences
- Hands-on ownership of BOMs and planning parameters, not just reading them
- A track record of building a planning process where none existed: a startup, a new plant, a turnaround, or a new product line
- Real fluency with inventory mechanics — safety stock, reorder points, days of supply, cycle counting, accuracy measurement
- Deep working knowledge of at least one ERP or MRP system — enough to know what planning logic
- should
- do and to specify it for someone building it
- The ability to write clear requirements and work directly with software developers
