Business Operations Specialist Job Description This Business Operations Specialist role supports transportation operations within a supply chain organization at a manufacturing facility, focusing on both domestic and international freight. The position maintains vendor relationships, supports non-IT business projects, and operates between administrative and management levels. You will help maintain project management processes, including goals, deadlines, metrics, and budgets, while providing critical support for inbound transportation, Track & Trace monitoring, and logistics reporting. This is an entry-level opportunity into logistics, transportation, and supply chain, offering the chance to work on meaningful projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and develop a long-term career in a large, global manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Establish and maintain clear and consistent communication services across business units and between the project team and the broader organization. Maintain organized storage and efficient retrieval of all project communication data and business metrics. Review contracts, cost proposals, and contract supplements to ensure accuracy and alignment with business objectives. Set up project structures and work breakdown structures to support effective project planning and execution. Establish, document, and improve business processes to enhance operational efficiency. Track project budgets and expenditures, and monitor transaction controls and costs against established budgets. Support transportation operations within the supply chain organization for both domestic and international freight. Perform Track & Trace monitoring to ensure materials move as planned from suppliers to the manufacturing facility. Coordinate closely with the logistics team to support inbound dock scheduling and execution. Assist supply chain and logistics teams in moving, tracking, and tracing material from suppliers to the manufacturing facility to meet desired delivery dates and times. Monitor and track inbound transportation activities, escalating issues as needed to maintain on-time delivery. Work with carriers to resolve transportation and delivery issues in a timely and professional manner. Use SAP and other applications to run transportation and logistics reports and support data-driven decision-making. Analyze data related to transportation, logistics, and supply chain performance, and provide insights to stakeholders. Apply accounting and mathematical principles as needed to support budgeting, cost tracking, and financial analysis. Support continuous improvement and process enhancement efforts within logistics and transportation operations. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, vendors, and carriers to provide excellent customer service and resolve issues. Manage time and tasks independently to meet deadlines and support multiple projects concurrently. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in business management, economics, finance, human resources, or a relevant field. 0-2 years of related experience in business operations, logistics, supply chain, finance, or a similar field. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally. High attention to detail and accuracy in handling data, documentation, and financial information. Customer service skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Ability to work independently, manage one's time, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, and production methods. Ability to apply accounting and mathematical principles to support budgeting, cost tracking, and financial analysis. Ability to analyze business trends and project future revenues and expenses. Previous experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Excellent Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to perform data analysis and data mining. Data analytics skills with the ability to interpret and present insights from large data sets. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and propose effective solutions. Export controls compliance experience or the ability to work within export control requirements. Skills & Qualifications Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, particularly for logistics and transportation reporting. Experience in logistics support, transportation operations, or supply chain environments. Exposure to process improvement initiatives and an interest in optimizing business processes. Familiarity with supplier management and working with carriers or external logistics partners. Experience in finance-related tasks such as cost analysis, budgeting, or financial reporting. Interest in building a long-term career in logistics, transportation, and supply chain within a large manufacturing organization. Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and operational needs in a manufacturing environment. Work Environment This role is based onsite at a manufacturing facility and involves direct interaction with the supply chain and material requirements teams. You will report to an onsite work director and transportation analyst who are dedicated to supporting the facility's logistics and transportation operations. The position is an office-based role on the second shift, working Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. You will work closely with logistics, transportation, and supplier-facing teams, using tools such as SAP, Microsoft Excel, and other business applications to support transportation reporting, Track & Trace activities, and inbound dock scheduling. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Laredo, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
