Our people division is growing, and we are looking for an Open Pit Operations Superintendent at our Phoenix operation. The Open Pit Operations Superintendent is responsible for safely leading and coordinating open pit mining operations to achieve production targets while maintaining the highest standards in safety, environmental stewardship, and operational efficiency. This role provides visible leadership in the field, sets the tone for a strong safety culture, and drives continuous improvement through proactive problem solving, collaboration, and disciplined cost management. The successful candidate leads by example, demonstrates a strong sense of ownership for site performance, and actively develops their team to ensure a sustainable and high-performing operation. Responsibilities:
Safety Leadership Promote a strong safety culture by leading by example and demonstrating a commitment to safety, health, and environmental stewardship. Ensure compliance with all site safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Maintain a visible presence in the field through safety engagements, observations, and coaching. Lead incident reviews and ensure effective implementation of corrective actions to improve safety performance. Operational Leadership Oversee daily open pit mining activities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production. Establish clear expectations and accountability across supervisors and crews. Maintain strong visibility in the field to support teams, identify risks, and address issues proactively. Cost Control & Operational Efficiency Monitor and manage operational activities to meet cost and budget targets. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and resource utilization. Implement solutions that enhance operational performance and support business objectives. Cross-Functional Collaboration Build strong working relationships with Mine Engineering, Mobile Maintenance, and other support departments. Ensure alignment between mine plans, equipment availability, and operational execution. Promote open communication and collaborative problem solving across teams. Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors and operational personnel to strengthen leadership capability. Provide clear expectations, coaching, and feedback to support employee growth and performance. Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and operational pride. Continuous Improvement & Sustainability Lead initiatives that enhance safety, productivity, and long-term operational sustainability. Encourage innovation and empower employees to identify and implement improvements. Strengthen operational processes and develop talent to support long-term site success.
Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or relevant experience required Ten (10) years mining experience with five (5) in progressive supervisory or technical roles preferred Five (5) years mine operations experience in leadership capacity preferred Excellent computer skill including experience Microsoft Office required - experience with SAP preferred Proven safe work record required Ability to perform all essential functions of this position required Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
