Job Description

Executive Director Reports to :
The Board Overview:
Protect Our Past is a mission-focused, strategic and resource-directed non-profit organization founded in 2023 by Ellen Briggs. Its mission is to advocate for historic preservation of Cape Cod's streetscapes and the homes that define them. To help move the organization from a totally volunteer-fueled organization, the Board is looking for an individual to administer systems, hire staff, coordinate volunteers and consultants, and develop a performance culture that delivers measurable, cost-effective results while fostering collaboration and tapping into the strengths of the team.
Core Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership :
Partner with the Board to create a strategic five-year plan and implement new processes and approaches to achieve it.
Operations & Management :
Serve as an internal leader of the organization, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, including: Leading the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization. Helping broaden the network beyond Chatham. Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of architectural styles of historic Cape Cod homes, meeting with the various regulatory bodies throughout the Cape, becoming familiar with some of the regional issues surrounding historic preservation, preservation easements, zoning, town bylaws affecting preservation, etc. Helping to coordinate social media, membership growth, events planning, outreach and various project initiatives (such as the historic house advisory services and educational programs). Coordinating the annual operations plan. Providing staff and volunteers with day-to-day leadership. Ensuring that all regulatory filings are submitted on time.
Fundraising :
Helping to bring in donor funding, grant revenue.

Key Qualifications:
A strong commitment to historical preservation. 2-4 years of experience in a related position or industry. A college degree (recommended but not required). Strong relationship-and interpersonal-building skills. Ability to multi-task. A passionate and persuasive communicator. Action-oriented, self-directed. Outcomes-oriented thinker. Comfortable with computer software and Internet programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, search engines, email, Facebook, Instagram, and Google Calendar. Personal transportation.
Compensation:
$30,000 - 35,000 2 weeks paid vacation annually
Pay:
$30,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
