Job Description
We are looking for an executive director of one of the oldest charities in Colorado Springs - Christmas Unlimited. The Executive Director serves as the strategic and operational leader of this charitable organization dedicated to providing toys to children and families in need during the holiday season. This part‑time role offers flexible hours throughout the year, with significantly increased activity from October through December. The Executive Director oversees fundraising, community partnerships, volunteer coordination, and program execution to ensure the organization fulfills its mission with excellence, transparency, and compassion. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy Provide overall leadership, vision, and direction for the organization. Develop annual goals, budgets, and operational plans aligned with the charity's mission. Report to and collaborate with the Board of Directors on strategic initiatives and organizational performance. Ensure compliance with all legal, financial, and ethical standards for nonprofit organizations. Fundraising & Development Lead grant‑writing efforts or hire/manage external grant writers as needed. Identify and cultivate donors, sponsors, and community partners. Set up and maintain mailing lists, donor databases, and communication systems for fundraising campaigns. Oversee seasonal fundraising drives, including Giving Tuesday, holiday appeals, and corporate sponsorships. Community Engagement & Partnerships Build and maintain relationships with charitable organizations, local businesses, civic groups, and community leaders. Visit partner organizations to solicit toy donations, financial contributions, and collaborative support. Represent the charity at community events, meetings, and media opportunities. Toy Collection & Distribution Operations Coordinate toy donation pickups from businesses, drop‑off sites, and partner organizations. Oversee inventory management, storage logistics, and distribution planning. Support volunteer teams during sorting, packing, and distribution events. Communications & Outreach Develop clear, mission‑centered messaging for newsletters, social media, donor updates, and public announcements. Maintain the organization's website and digital presence. Promote the charity's mission through storytelling, community engagement, and seasonal campaigns. Qualifications Experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, community outreach, or related fields, preferred but not required. Strong communication, relationship‑building, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and manage seasonal surges in workload. Comfortable with public speaking, donor engagement, and community networking. Familiarity with grant writing, donor management systems, or nonprofit compliance is preferred.
