Rob'e Mans Automotive Group is seeking an exceptional, results-driven Director of Operations / Chief Operating Officer (COO) to serve as the second-in-command to the President and lead the daily operations of our growing multi-location automotive repair organization. Our company operates specialized automotive repair facilities serving Asian, European, Domestic, and Fleet vehicles throughout the Birmingham and Homewood area. We have built our reputation on exceptional customer service, quality workmanship, integrity, and professionalism. We are looking for an accomplished automotive operations leader with proven experience successfully overseeing multiple automotive repair facilities or dealership service departments . This is not a single-store General Manager position. We are looking for an executive-level leader who can independently run our daily operations, develop strong management teams, drive profitability, and help build the future of our organization. The successful candidate will have the authority to independently manage day-to-day operations, supervise location managers, make personnel and operational decisions within established company policies and budgets, and implement strategies that improve company-wide performance. The President will remain focused on company vision, strategic direction, expansion, and major business decisions, while the Director of Operations / COO ensures that every location operates efficiently, profitably, and consistently. We need someone who takes ownership, makes decisions, solves problems, develops leaders, and produces measurable results without requiring constant oversight. Key Responsibilities Multi-Location Operations & Executive Leadership Independently oversee daily operations across all Rob'e Mans Automotive Group facilities. Directly supervise, coach, and hold location managers accountable. Establish consistent operational standards, procedures, and performance expectations across all locations. Monitor location performance and implement corrective action when necessary. Make day-to-day operational decisions within approved budgets and company policies. Conduct regular management meetings, operational reviews, and facility evaluations. Ensure each location operates efficiently, professionally, and profitably. Provide the President with regular reporting on company performance, challenges, and opportunities. Financial Management & Profitability Take direct responsibility for company-wide operational financial performance. Analyze and manage revenue, gross profit, operating expenses, and net operating profitability. Review profit-and-loss statements, budgets, and operational financial reports. Establish financial performance targets for each location. Improve labor gross profit, parts margins, effective labor rates, and technician productivity. Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenses and improve profitability. Hold managers accountable for achieving financial and operational goals. Work with the President to develop annual budgets and strategic financial objectives. Leadership & Employee Development Recruit, train, develop, and retain high-performing managers, service advisors, technicians, and support personnel. Build a strong management team capable of operating successfully without constant executive involvement. Establish a culture of accountability, professionalism, integrity, and continuous improvement. Conduct management evaluations and employee performance reviews. Address personnel challenges and make appropriate staffing decisions. Develop internal leadership talent to support future expansion. Ensure management teams consistently execute company policies and expectations. Shop Performance & Operational Efficiency Monitor key automotive service performance indicators, including: Revenue and revenue growth by location Gross profit and net operating profit Average repair order (ARO) Effective labor rate (ELR) Technician productivity and efficiency Labor hours sold Parts gross profit margins Service advisor sales performance Customer retention and satisfaction Repair quality and comeback rates Implement strategies to improve technician productivity and shop workflow. Standardize operating procedures and performance reporting across all locations. Identify underperforming areas and develop measurable improvement plans. Ensure effective communication between managers, service advisors, technicians, and administrative personnel. Customer Experience & Quality Control Maintain exceptional customer service standards across all facilities. Monitor customer satisfaction, online reviews, and customer retention. Oversee the resolution of escalated customer concerns. Establish consistent quality control procedures. Reduce preventable comebacks and improve repair quality. Protect and strengthen the reputation of Rob'e Mans Automotive Group. Business Growth & Strategic Execution Work directly with the President to execute the company's long-term growth strategy. Identify opportunities to increase revenue, profitability, and market share. Support continued growth of fleet services and commercial customer relationships. Evaluate opportunities for operational expansion and additional locations. Assist with acquisition evaluations and integration of future facilities. Develop scalable management systems and operational processes. Translate strategic objectives into measurable operational results. Required Qualifications Minimum 7 years of progressive automotive service management experience. Proven experience overseeing multiple automotive repair facilities or dealership service departments is highly recommended. Demonstrated success managing multiple location managers or service department leaders. Strong understanding of automotive repair operations, dealership fixed operations, and service department profitability. Proven experience managing multi-location budgets, profit-and-loss statements, and operational financial performance. Demonstrated success improving revenue, profitability, and operational efficiency. Experience establishing and managing key performance indicators across multiple facilities. Strong leadership, recruiting, employee development, and performance management experience. Ability to make sound operational and personnel decisions independently. Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability. Candidates must have actual multi-location automotive leadership experience. Single-location management experience alone will not meet the requirements for this position. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as a Director of Operations, COO, Regional Manager, District Manager, Fixed Operations Director, or Multi-Location General Manager. Experience overseeing independent automotive repair facilities, dealership groups, or multi-store automotive service organizations. Strong knowledge of automotive shop management software and financial reporting systems. Proven track record of improving company-wide operating profitability. Experience implementing standardized operating procedures across multiple locations. Experience supporting business acquisitions, expansion, or integration of additional facilities. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
