Job Description
Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Operations and Area General Manager, the Operations Manager shall organize, oversee, control and direct the activities of a school bus service location and/or locations(s) ensuring that the operations are safe, efficient and meet the needs of the customer(s), employees, and corporation. This classification is the most senior position at the location(s).Specific Duties:
Direct the day-to-day operations of the Morongo school bus facilities. People skills, creativity, rational analysis, and knowledge of the transportation industry are all required for success. Coordinate and assist in the development of financial information while executing the established budget. Including managing cost control, capital investment decisions, forecasting, pricing, and service management. Perform service planning where appropriate. Maintain smooth operation in the workplace. It is important to ensure the safety of STA's employees. The Operations Manager must inspect the workplace to check if there are problems in the workplace to avoid accidents and incidents while developing and maintaining a safety conscious culture that commences with the hiring process and continues at all times during an individual's employment. To maintain productivity is also the duty of an Operations Manager. Must conduct routine checks from time-to-time in order to ensure that their employees are meeting their job responsibilities. Quarterly employee meetings are required to facilitate constructive feedback from employees. They are also responsible when it comes to decision making, whether they will need to hire or recommend terminating an employee. This will include directing, counseling and disciplining employees. Act as a liaison between STA and customers, community, parents, students, and the public always ensuring the reputation of STA. Monthly reviews with the customer/client (school personnel at the contacted schools) are required which includes a written brief to the vice president. Assist with the development of new business opportunities in the community. Delegate responsibilities and duties assigned herein as he/she deems appropriate. Assure that all routes are covered, and schedules met and any other matters that involve contract compliance. Oversee the assignment of driving personnel to ensure consistency and efficiency. Maintain a log of deviations or interruptions to service and reasons for the deviations, including but not limited to road failure. Organize and lead monthly safety/in-service training meetings. Participate in scheduling driver training classes. Assure that payroll, billing and other reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner. Investigate all incidents and accidents, including conducting interviews, schedule follow-up retraining or other corrective action and report findings. Drive routes as needed. Some business travel may be required as deemed appropriate.Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree preferred and at least four (4) years or equivalent of management experience. The ability to obtain a School Bus License within 6 months of hire is preferred. Must have excellent working knowledge of all aspects of operations. Must have good interpersonal communication skills. Must have very good computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office. Bilingual in Spanish a plus. Must have strong leadership abilities.
