We are seeking an experienced Last Mile & Carrier Operations Manager to manage day-to-day carrier performance, transportation capacity, delivery costs, and service quality across our U.S. fulfillment network. Position Summary The Last Mile & Carrier Operations Manager will be responsible for managing outbound carrier operations from warehouse handoff through final customer delivery.
This position will coordinate with parcel, LTL, regional, oversized, and specialized delivery providers to ensure sufficient pickup capacity, timely first scans, reliable delivery performance, competitive transportation costs, and prompt resolution of delivery exceptions.
The successful candidate will work closely with warehouse operations, sales, customer service, finance, technology, and carrier partners to improve service performance and support the continued growth of PP Warehouse's national fulfillment network. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day relationships with national and regional parcel, LTL, oversized, residential, and specialized delivery providers. Coordinate carrier pickups, trailer capacity, warehouse cutoff times, peak-season volume, and contingency plans across multiple facilities. Monitor transportation KPIs, including first-scan timeliness, on-time delivery, cost per shipment, delivery exceptions, loss and damage rates, claims, and customer complaints. Identify service failures and work with carrier stations, hubs, account representatives, and internal warehouse teams to implement corrective actions. Analyze carrier rates, service levels, dimensional-weight rules, zones, fuel surcharges, residential fees, delivery-area surcharges, additional handling, oversized-package fees, and other accessorial charges. Support carrier sourcing, rate negotiations, contract reviews, service comparisons, and volume-allocation decisions. Recommend the appropriate carrier and service level based on package dimensions, destination, delivery requirements, cost, and customer SLA. Manage delivery exceptions, including delayed scans, missed pickups, lost or damaged packages, address problems, failed delivery attempts, and carrier capacity issues. Oversee carrier claims, billing discrepancies, service-refund requests, and invoice-audit follow-up. Maintain carrier scorecards and prepare weekly and monthly transportation performance reports. Support the implementation of new carriers, delivery services, customer programs, system integrations, and tracking solutions. Partner with Sales and Client Solutions teams to develop transportation solutions and pricing for new and existing customers. Work with warehouse operations to improve outbound preparation, manifest accuracy, carrier handoff, trailer loading, and same-day first-scan performance. Support peak-season transportation planning and ensure adequate carrier capacity during periods of increased volume. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for carrier management, delivery exceptions, claims, invoice reviews, and performance escalation. Stay informed about parcel and freight market developments, carrier rule changes, pricing adjustments, and service disruptions. Travel to Company warehouses, carrier stations, hubs, and customer locations as required. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. At least five years of experience in transportation, parcel operations, e-commerce logistics, third-party logistics, or last-mile delivery. At least two years of experience in a supervisory, management, carrier-management, or transportation-lead role. Hands-on experience working with major parcel, LTL, regional, or specialized delivery carriers. Strong knowledge of parcel pricing, dimensional weight, zones, fuel surcharges, residential fees, delivery-area surcharges, additional handling, oversized packages, and transportation claims. Experience managing carrier pickups, service performance, capacity, delivery exceptions, and cost improvement initiatives. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar data-analysis tools. Experience using WMS, OMS, TMS, carrier portals, tracking systems, or business intelligence dashboards. Strong communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and cross-functional coordination skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to service disruptions and operational escalations. Ability to work effectively in a fast-growing, hands-on operating environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting high-volume e-commerce fulfillment or cross-border e-commerce customers. Direct experience working with FedEx, UPS, USPS, Amazon Shipping, regional parcel carriers, LTL providers, or bulky-item delivery networks. Experience supporting carrier rate negotiations or transportation RFPs. Experience managing transportation performance across multiple warehouse locations. Experience with carrier API integrations, automated tracking, or delivery-performance dashboards. Experience working with both domestic and international teams.
