General Manager of Flatbed Operations Position Summary The General Manager of Flatbed Operations is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, recruiting, and strategic direction of the company's flatbed division. This role oversees daily operations, fleet performance, safety compliance, driver management, and customer service while driving efficiency, profitability, and service excellence. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership of the flatbed division Oversee dispatch, planning, and load management to ensure efficient utilization of assets Monitor and improve key operational metrics including revenue per truck, utilization, and on-time service Develop and execute operational strategies to support company growth and profitability Fleet & Driver Management Lead driver management efforts, including performance monitoring, coaching, and engagement Recruit to ensure adequate driver staffing levels Drive initiatives to improve driver satisfaction, productivity, and retention Ensure alignment between drivers, dispatch, and customer expectations Safety & Compliance Champion a safety-first culture across the flatbed operation Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and industry standards Oversee flatbed-specific securement practices and training Partner with safety teams to reduce accidents, claims, and violations Financial Performance Manage the P&L for the flatbed division Develop budgets, forecasts, and cost-control strategies Analyze financial performance and implement actions to improve margins Optimize operating costs, including fuel, maintenance, and labor Customer & Business Development Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners Collaborate with sales teams to support growth initiatives and secure new business Ensure high levels of service, communication, and issue resolution Support pricing strategies and contract negotiations as needed Process Improvement & Strategy Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and scalability Implement best practices in dispatch, routing, and load planning Utilize data and reporting to drive continuous improvement Lead or support technology adoption and system enhancements Leadership & Team Development Lead, coach, and develop a team of managers, supervisors, and support staff Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and development plans Promote strong communication across departments Qualifications Spanish is a must Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience) 7-10+ years of experience in trucking or logistics operations, with flatbed experience strongly preferred Proven leadership experience managing teams and driving operational results Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance Experience managing financial performance, budgeting, and KPIs Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications Deep expertise in flatbed operations, including load securement and specialized freight Experience in high-growth or multi-terminal operations Familiarity with TMS systems and data analytics tools Track record of improving efficiency, safety, and profitability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Revenue per truck / per week Fleet utilization and productivity On-time pickup and delivery performance Safety metrics (accidents, CSA scores, claims) Driver turnover and engagement Operating ratio / profit margins Why This Role Matters The Director of Flatbed Operations plays a critical role in ensuring operational excellence, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
