Position Summary HOWCO Environmental Services is seeking an experienced, hands-on Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our three industrial processing facilities in Florida. This is a senior operational leadership position responsible for ensuring all three plants operate safely, efficiently, consistently, and in accordance with company procedures and applicable environmental and regulatory requirements. The Operations Manager will provide direct leadership to plant supervisors, operators, and other operational personnel and will be accountable for production, staffing, equipment readiness, housekeeping, safety, maintenance coordination, documentation, and overall plant performance. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in an industrial environment and who can move between managing people, troubleshooting operational issues, reviewing paperwork and production numbers, and being physically present in the plants. This is not a desk-only management position . Primary Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day operations of all three HOWCO processing plants. Direct and support supervisors and plant personnel. Establish daily operating priorities and ensure assigned work is completed. Monitor production, processing volumes, tank levels, transfers, inventory, and operational capacity. Ensure plant operations follow established work instructions, Work Instructions, permits, and company policies. Maintain accountability for employee performance, attendance, productivity, and completion of assigned responsibilities. Conduct regular walkthroughs of all plant areas and identify operational, safety, housekeeping, and maintenance concerns. Coordinate with maintenance personnel to prioritize equipment repairs and preventative maintenance. Minimize equipment downtime and operational interruptions through proactive planning and communication. Ensure operators properly document plant activities, inspections, testing, transfers, maintenance issues, and other required records. Review daily operational reports and identify problems, discrepancies, or incomplete work. Coordinate operations between HOWCO's used oil processing, industrial wastewater treatment, and related environmental processing activities. Ensure tanks, pumps, piping, processing equipment, containment areas, and associated plant systems are maintained in safe operating condition. Monitor chemical and operational supply inventories and ensure critical materials are available when needed. Participate in troubleshooting process and equipment problems and coordinate corrective actions. Work closely with management, transportation, maintenance, environmental/compliance, laboratory, and administrative personnel. Assist with employee training and ensure employees understand and follow established procedures. Participate in hiring, onboarding, coaching, corrective action, and performance management of plant personnel. Maintain strong standards for facility cleanliness, organization, and housekeeping. Ensure safety concerns, spills, equipment failures, abnormal operating conditions, and other significant events are immediately addressed and properly reported. Support environmental and regulatory compliance activities and cooperate with inspections, sampling, recordkeeping, and corrective actions. Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency, reliability, productivity, and cost control. Provide management with clear and timely updates regarding plant performance, staffing, equipment issues, and operational risks. Be available to respond to significant operational issues when necessary.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum 3 years of industrial operations, manufacturing, processing, environmental services, wastewater, petroleum, chemical, recycling, or similar heavy industrial experience . Previous supervisory or management experience with responsibility for employees and daily operations. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple operating areas, departments, or facilities. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand pumps, tanks, valves, piping, process equipment, and industrial systems. Ability to troubleshoot operational problems and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Strong leadership and employee-management skills. Ability to hold employees accountable while maintaining a professional working environment. Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills. Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn company operating and maintenance systems. Valid driver's license. Ability to work in an active industrial environment, including walking plants, climbing stairs, and working outdoors in Florida weather.
Preferred:
Experience in used oil recycling, petroleum processing, wastewater treatment, environmental services, chemical processing, industrial waste management, or related operations . Experience overseeing multiple facilities or multiple processing departments. Experience with industrial wastewater treatment systems. Experience working within environmental permits and regulatory requirements. Experience coordinating preventative maintenance and equipment repairs. OSHA, HAZWOPER, wastewater, environmental, or other applicable industrial training/certifications. What We're Looking For The successful candidate will be a visible, hands-on leader who takes ownership of plant operations. We need someone who can walk into a plant, understand what is happening, recognize when something is not right, determine what needs to be done, assign responsibility, and follow through until the issue is resolved. The right person will be comfortable making decisions, managing competing priorities, communicating expectations clearly, and holding themselves and others accountable for results. This position requires someone who is proactive rather than reactive . We are looking for a manager who identifies problems early, develops solutions, and keeps senior management informed without requiring constant direction. Schedule This is a full-time management position primarily working during normal daytime operating hours. However, the Operations Manager must have flexibility to respond to significant plant, staffing, equipment, or operational issues outside normal working hours when necessary.
