Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Position Summary The Operations Director provides overall leadership and operational direction for the Express Employment Professionals office, ensuring strong performance across recruiting, staffing operations, client service, team development, compliance, and business growth. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position responsible for ensuring the office operates effectively while maintaining strong relationships with employees, associates, clients, community partners, and Express resources. The Operations Director works closely with ownership and the Business Development team to establish priorities, identify opportunities, resolve challenges, and support the continued growth and profitability of the business. The ideal candidate is a strong people leader who is highly organized, relationship-driven, comfortable making decisions, and able to balance strategic priorities with the day-to-day demands of a fast-paced staffing and recruiting environment. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, coaching, and accountability for the internal office team. Establish expectations and priorities while ensuring team members have the resources and support necessary to succeed. Conduct performance reviews, coaching conversations, training, and employee development. Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and developing internal team members. Promote collaboration and communication across recruiting, business development, and administrative functions. Identify workflow, staffing, and organizational needs as the business evolves. Operations & Service Delivery Oversee daily staffing and recruiting operations and ensure client orders are being prioritized and effectively supported. Maintain visibility into open orders, recruiting pipelines, placements, conversions, attendance, turnover, and service challenges. Develop and improve processes that increase efficiency, consistency, and service quality. Ensure responsibilities, workflows, and client expectations are clearly communicated across the team. Troubleshot operational issues and provide leadership during urgent or sensitive situations. Utilize Express systems, technology, reporting, and resources to drive office performance. Client Relations & Account Management Develop and maintain strong relationships with key client accounts and serve as a senior point of contact when needed. Conduct client meetings, operational reviews, and strategic workforce discussions. Partner with clients to understand workforce challenges and develop appropriate staffing and recruiting solutions. Address escalated service concerns and ensure timely resolution. Support client retention, expansion, pricing discussions, contract considerations, and new opportunities. Partner closely with Business Development to transition new accounts successfully from sales into ongoing operations. Recruiting & Workforce Strategy Provide oversight and strategy for Light Industrial, Skilled Trades, Office/Professional, and Direct Hire recruiting efforts. Monitor recruiting activity and ensure pipelines are being developed proactively rather than only in response to immediate openings. Assist with difficult or high-priority searches when needed. Identify changing labor-market conditions and help adjust recruiting strategies accordingly. Ensure appropriate communication and engagement with candidates and Express associates throughout the employment lifecycle. Financial & Business Performance Partner with ownership to monitor office performance, profitability, gross margin, expenses, staffing levels, and overall business health. Review operational reports and key performance indicators to identify trends and opportunities. Understand the financial impact of pricing, wages, markup, turnover, overtime, recruiting investments, and client service decisions. Assist with annual planning, budgeting, compensation reviews, and operational goal setting. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, profitability, and sustainable growth. Risk, Compliance & Employee Relations Ensure appropriate adherence to Express policies, employment practices, client requirements, and applicable employment regulations. Provide leadership on employee relations, attendance, performance, terminations, workplace concerns, and sensitive associate matters. Coordinate workers' compensation and workplace injury processes with appropriate internal and external partners. Oversee appropriate documentation and escalation of risk or compliance concerns. Ensure client-specific onboarding, screening, safety, and employment requirements are consistently followed. Community & Strategic Partnerships Represent Express Employment Professionals within the Greater Lafayette business community. Develop relationships with employers, educational institutions, workforce organizations, nonprofit organizations, chambers, and other community partners. Participate in community events, workforce initiatives, job fairs, and professional organizations. Identify partnerships that strengthen Express's recruiting reach, employer relationships, and reputation within the community. Qualifications 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in staffing, recruiting, human resources, operations, workforce development, or a related service-based industry. Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams. Strong client relationship and account-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Strong understanding of business operations and financial performance. Experience in managing employee relations and sensitive workplace situations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through skills. Comfortable working with technology, reporting, CRM/ATS systems, and operational data. Bachelor's degree is preferred; equivalent leadership and industry experience will be considered. What Success Looks Like Success in this role means building a team that operates with clear expectations, accountability, urgency, and collaboration while delivering excellent experience to clients, candidates, and associates. The Operations Director should be equally comfortable coaching an internal employee, meeting with the leadership team of a major client, reviewing business performance with ownership, solving an operational problem, or representing Express in the community.
