Job Description

Flowers By John Kent | New Orleans, Louisiana | Full-Time Salaried | $42,000-$52,000 per year, based on experience, plus bonus eligibility Help run a growing New Orleans floral and events business. Flowers By John Kent is an established, fast-moving New Orleans floral and events business looking for an Operations Manager who is equally strong at running the daily operation, bringing the front and back of the house together, and keeping the books clean. This person will own the day-to-day flow of orders, purchasing, paperwork, and Quick Books entry so ownership can focus on opening new accounts and growing the business. This is not a receptionist or basic data-entry role. We need a sharp, organized operator who can keep a busy shop moving and make sure every order, invoice, deposit, and receipt is accurate and accounted for. If you want a corporate environment where every decision runs through layers of management, this is probably not the right fit. If you want a meaningful role where your work is visible, your ideas matter, and you have direct access to ownership, we want to talk. What you will own
Operations:
tie the front of the house to the back of the house Oversee daily order flow from intake to production to delivery in our order management system. Make sure every order is complete and accurate before it reaches the design team: delivery details, payment, card messages, special requests, and event or funeral timing. Be the link between the front counter and the design room, so designers get clear orders and customers get accurate updates. Build strong working relationships with our designers, understand their workload, and help the team hit production deadlines.
Supervise front-end staff and drivers:
lead the morning huddle, assign tasks, and hold the team accountable. Monitor deliveries in our system and handle exceptions such as failed deliveries, address problems, and late orders. Handle customer concerns professionally and resolve routine issues without escalating every problem to ownership. Build and improve checklists, procedures, and systems that reduce mistakes. Flower purchasing & budget control Work with ownership to plan flower and supply orders based on upcoming orders, weddings, events, and holidays. Track purchasing against budget and flag overspending before it happens. Compare what we buy with what we sell to reduce waste and protect margins. Keep vendor invoices, credits, and deliveries organized and accurate. Bookkeeping & Quick Books Enter receipts, bills, and expenses into Quick Books accurately and on time. Create, send, and track invoices, deposits, and customer payments. Match receipts and payments to the correct invoices, orders, and expense categories. Track unpaid balances and wedding/event deposits, and follow up on past-due accounts. Flag discrepancies between our POS, invoices, deposits, card activity, and Quick Books. Prepare clean weekly paperwork and reports for ownership and our accountant. Required qualifications 2+ years of experience in operations, office management, or a similar role in a fast-paced service business. Hands-on Quick Books experience (Online or Desktop): entering bills and receipts, creating invoices, recording payments, and categorizing expenses. Experience working with budgets, purchasing, or inventory. A team player who builds trust with creative staff and can bring different departments together. Strong accuracy and attention to detail with numbers and records. Proven ability to supervise people, set expectations, and follow up. Strong customer-service judgment and the confidence to handle complaints. Comfortable with technology and quick to learn new software, including POS systems, spreadsheets, and cloud-based tools. Clear written and verbal communication. Ability to prioritize multiple urgent tasks without letting details slip. Reliable attendance and a schedule that may include busy holidays, occasional weekends, and high-volume event periods. Preferred qualifications Bookkeeping, accounts receivable, or accounts payable experience. Supervisory or team-lead experience. Knowledge of fresh flowers, wholesale buying, or perishable inventory. Floral, wedding, event, hospitality, retail, or funeral-service experience. Experience building office systems, procedures, or training materials. What makes this opportunity different A visible leadership role in an established, growing local company. Direct access to ownership and fast decisions. Competitive salary of $42,000-$52,000 per year , based on experience and demonstrated skill. Eligibility for quarterly and annual performance bonuses tied to company results and your individual performance. Details will be discussed during the interview process. A formal 90-day review with growth tied to performance. Benefits and retirement-plan options are being added as the company grows; details will be shared with qualified candidates as the program is finalized. A path to help build the team by screening applicants and coordinating interviews as the business grows. Long-term potential to grow with the business. What success looks like in 90 days Orders are accurate and flow cleanly from intake to production to delivery. The front counter and design room work as one team, with fewer errors and remakes. Flower purchasing is planned ahead and tracked against budget. QuickBooks is current, receipts are matched, and nothing is left for ownership to clean up. Deposits, invoices, and unpaid balances are tracked and followed up on. Front-end staff and drivers know the daily priorities and are held accountable. Ownership spends less time on daily operations and paperwork and more time growing the business. Who should not apply This position is not a fit if you: Are uncomfortable with numbers, records, or Quick Books. Want a low-pressure role with little accountability. Need someone else to prioritize every task for you. Dislike giving direction or following up with team members. Are uncomfortable in a fast-moving environment where holidays, events, sympathy work, and last-minute changes are part of the business. How to apply Email your resume and short answers to the three questions below to kris@johnkentflowers.com with the subject line "Operations Manager - [Your Name]" . Please apply by email only. Do not call the shop or come in unannounced about this position. Applications submitted any other way will not be considered.
