Job Description

Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement:

UM Ventures is a joint initiative of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the University of Maryland, College Park, to commercialize technologies and expand industry collaboration. The Assistant Director, Operations leads, manages, and provides direction to the UM Ventures administration team responsible for: intake, triage, and disposition of all UMD intellectual property disclosures; ensuring compliance with all federal and non-federal funding obligations; ensuring license/agreement compliance by soliciting and reviewing licensee reports and coordinating timely payments with the finance team; processing and maintaining assigned agreements and amendments; ensuring intellectual property/patent formalities are prepared accurately and timely filed; maintaining and updating data for the foregoing; collaborate with the UM Ventures leadership team to develop, update, and implement office policies and procedures; oversee management/implementation of IP Management database and other software tools.

Physical Demands:

Sedentary work performed in a normal office environment; exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Ability to attend meetings both on and off campus. Spending long hours in front of a computer screen.

Licenses/Certifications:
N/A Minimum Qualifications Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

Seven (7) years of professional experience managing business operations. Two (2) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge of business acumen to understand key business drivers, organizational communications, and data. Knowledge of organizational and unit performances measures. Knowledge of the impact and implications of decisions on leadership objectives. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in data analytics and negotiation. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products. Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion. Ability to develop and administer new policies and procedures. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Preferences:

7 years of progressively responsible technology transfer administrative/operations experience. 2 years of supervisory experience in a technology transfer setting.
