Who we are Waters Aero-Marine is a 40-person company running two air carriers, a water taxi, and a flight school in Maine. Eight Cessnas on wheels and floats, a 16-passenger Coast Guard-inspected vessel, and vans on both sides of the water. In the south, Penobscot Island Air flies out of Knox County Regional Airport in Owls Head. We carry people, the U.S. Mail, UPS, FedEx, groceries, engine parts, and whatever else needs to get across the bay to Matinicus, North Haven, and Vinalhaven, year-round, in weather that often has other ideas. Our water taxi serves the same islands. For the people who live out there, we're the road, the grocery store, the post office, and the ride to the mainland when the ferry doesn't run. In the north, Katahdin Air has flown floatplanes off the Golden Road outside Millinocket since 1947: scenic flights over Baxter State Park and Katahdin, dinner runs to the remote sporting camps, resupply for Appalachian Trail hikers, and taxi service into ponds you can't reach any other way.

The jobYou run the business side of all of it. One set of books, two operations, based at Knox County Regional Airport with occasional trips north to Millinocket. QuickBooks. Payroll for a crew that's paid hourly, salaried, per diem, and per trip leg, sometimes all in the same week. Freight invoicing and the collections that come after it, some of which take real patience with organizations much larger than we are. Workers' comp and insurance on vehicles and the vessel. And the day-to-day HR that comes with pilots, mechanics, dispatchers, deckhands, line crew, and instructors.

It's a good moment to join. We've spent the last two years moving the company off a paper calendar and onto our own software, and the back office is next. Invoicing, freight rate cards, and timecards are being built right now, and Katahdin comes onto the same system this fall. You'll have a lot of say in what gets built, because you're the person who has to work in it every day. What you'll own The QuickBooks file: AP, AR, bank and credit card reconciliation, month-end close, and clean books handed to our outside CPA at year-end Payroll for about 40 employees across both operations Freight and charter invoicing, a few invoices a day plus weekly accounts, and following up when customers are late Renewals, audits, and certificates for workers' comp, auto, and marine insurance, working with our brokers Onboarding, personnel files, benefits enrollment, time off tracking, and the routine HR questions a crew this size generates Vendor relationships, office operations, and whatever falls between the cracks in a small company You report directly to the President. No layer sits between you and the decisions. Who we're looking for Five or more years running the books for a small company, ideally as the person who owned them rather than assisted with them Payroll experience for a crew, not just an office with overtime, per diem, seasonal swings. You've sat through a workers' comp audit or handled a commercial insurance renewal at least once Strong QuickBooks. Comfortable in Excel or Google Sheets. You like fixing processes you inherited, not just running them. Marine, construction, trades, transportation, or hospitality back office experience is a plus. Aviation experience isn't required, and we don't expect it. What this is not Not a CPA or controller role. Our accountant handles taxes and year-end. Not a data entry job. If you want someone handing you a stack and telling you what to do, this isn't it. Not remote. The work happens at the airport.

Pay:

$60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
