Home Services About the Role We are looking for a Director of Operations to lead the day-to-day execution of a growing home services business in Summit, New Jersey. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can build structure around a busy operation, develop a strong team, and make sure work moves from scheduled to completed efficiently and consistently. The Director of Operations will own the people, processes, and operating rhythm required to deliver today's work while ensuring the business has the capacity and resources to handle what's coming next. The right person will be equally comfortable looking ahead at the next 30-90 days and getting into the details of what needs to happen today.
What You'll Own Operational Performance:
Establish clear KPIs and scorecards across the operation. Create visibility into what's working, what's falling behind, and where leadership needs to intervene.
Daily Execution:
Ensure scheduled work is properly staffed, resourced, and completed on time and to the company's standards. Identify bottlenecks early and drive issues through resolution.
Capacity & Forecasting:
Look ahead at upcoming work and translate demand into staffing, scheduling, equipment, and resource requirements. Make sure the organization is prepared for future workload without losing focus on today's commitments.
Team Leadership:
Lead, coach, and develop the operations team. Clarify roles, establish expectations, and build a team capable of taking ownership without constant oversight.
Accountability:
Create a consistent operating cadence around goals, KPIs, commitments, and follow-through. Address performance issues quickly and make ownership clear.
Process Improvement:
Identify gaps in scheduling, communication, handoffs, resource allocation, and field execution. Build practical systems that allow the company to handle greater volume without adding unnecessary complexity.
Cross-Functional Coordination:
Work closely with sales, customer service, and leadership to ensure commitments made to customers align with the operational team's ability to deliver. What Success Looks Like Within the first 6-12 months, the Director of Operations will have: Established a clear set of operational KPIs and a consistent cadence for reviewing them. Created greater visibility into current workload, upcoming demand, and team capacity. Improved accountability across managers and frontline teams. Built a stronger operating team with clear roles, expectations, and ownership. Improved the consistency and predictability of work being completed on time and to standard. Developed a repeatable forecasting and planning process that allows the business to anticipate staffing and resource needs before they become problems. Reduced the amount of day-to-day operational firefighting required from senior leadership. Who We're Looking For We're looking for an operator who brings structure without bureaucracy. You know how to manage through numbers, but you don't manage from a spreadsheet. You understand that KPIs only matter if they drive action. You're comfortable holding people accountable, having difficult conversations, and developing people who can take on more responsibility. Most importantly, you can operate on two timelines at once: making sure today's work gets done while building the team and capacity required for tomorrow's work. Experience leading field operations, home services, construction, skilled trades, or another high-volume service environment is preferred. Direct industry experience is helpful, but strong operational leadership, team building, and execution are more important.
