Essential Job Summary:
The Site Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and daily operations of a waste collection or hauling facility. This role ensures operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, safety adherence, and employee accountability while fostering high service standards. The Site Manager serves as the primary liaison between the site and corporate teams, customer service, sales, and union representatives when applicable.
Operations Oversight:
Oversee and manage all site functions including dispatch, safety, routing, and maintenance. Monitor route performance through route audits, tablet data, Samsara events, Power BI KPIs, and marker can reviews. Ensure route optimization and accuracy of productivity reporting; address errors and enforce process compliance. Conduct daily huddles, site manager meetings, and participate in director-level calls. Lead daily and weekly reviews of dispatch decision-making and route observation performance.
Safety and Compliance:
Implement and monitor effective safety and accident prevention programs. Participate in and lead safety meetings and incident reviews with drivers and helpers. Conduct fleet inspections and vehicle walk-arounds to ensure DOT compliance and vehicle readiness. Monitor driver qualifications including license and medical card status. Oversee quarterly random drug screenings and ensure appropriate documentation is maintained. Conduct site inspections to identify and address deficiencies (e.g., lighting, landscaping, signage).
People Leadership and Development:
Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of dispatchers, drivers, and operational support staff. Approve or deny PTO requests and manage schedule adjustments with dispatch. Onboard new drivers at the depot and conduct route orientation. Manage disciplinary actions, up to and including terminations. Maintain union communication for driver-specific concerns and work conditions.
Customer and Stakeholder Relations:
Communicate directly with Customer Service and Sales teams regarding service escalations and site performance. Resolve unresolved customer service complaints and ensure corrective actions are implemented. Participate in municipal and partner meetings as needed for service assurance and relationship management.
Administrative and Technical Duties:
Review and verify weekly payroll before submission (Mondays before 10:00 AM). Ensure hours of service logs are reviewed and compliance issues are corrected. Maintain and order safety supplies such as gloves, vests, and PPE. Oversee and validate container inventory records and truck scale calibration. Review Samsara alerts, productivity data, and monitor accuracy in tablet usage. Evaluate Power BI dashboards (e.g., Missed Stops, Hauling Productivity) and implement corrective actions. #
