We have specialized in drilling, blasting and rock trenching throughout the Pacific Northwest since 2002, and we are building the team to support our next season of growth. This role reports directly to the Owner/CEO and carries responsibility for safety and regulatory compliance, resource planning, financial oversight and the people who do the work. You will split your time between job sites and the office, and you will be trusted to make sound decisions in both. Maintain full compliance with OSHA, MSHA, ATF and DOT regulations across all active project sites. Lead the
Safety Culture:
Run regular safety meetings, track incidents and near misses, and make sure every crew member has the training and PPE the work requires.
Manage Permits:
Secure, track and maintain all federal, state and local permits required for drilling, blasting and explosive transport.
Explosives Accountability:
Oversee explosives storage, inventory records and magazine compliance in line with ATF requirements.
Pre-Blast Notifications:
Oversee the pre-blast community notification process so neighbors and local authorities are notified within required timeframes.
Site Audits:
Travel up to 50% of the time to conduct site audits, inspect safety conditions and meet with field crews.
Project & Resource Management Scheduling:
Plan and schedule crews, equipment and materials across multiple projects to keep work on time and on budget.
Equipment Oversight:
Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs and equipment readiness with field staff.
Project Tracking:
Monitor production, progress and job costs against bids and contract terms, and address problems early.
Client Coordination:
Serve as an operations contact for contractors, municipalities and project owners on schedules, site conditions and scope changes.
Financial & Administrative Management Invoicing:
Oversee accurate and timely client invoicing based on field production data and contract terms.
A/R & A/P
Oversight:
Manage accounts receivable to keep collections current and review accounts payable to maintain healthy vendor relationships.
Financial Coordination:
Hold weekly meetings with the bookkeeper/payroll specialist to verify hours, track job costing and manage cash flow.
Systems & Documentation:
Maintain and improve operating procedures, job records and reporting so the company runs on consistent systems.
Leadership & Human Resources Manage Staff:
Supervise, schedule and mentor field superintendents, drillers, blasters and administrative staff.
Human Resources:
Handle workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations and employee relations in compliance with labor laws.
Training & Development:
Identify skill gaps, support certifications and develop the next generation of field leaders.
Executive Alignment:
Meet weekly with the Owner/CEO to report on project tracking, safety metrics and financial performance. What Success Looks Like Within the first year, the Operations Manager will have built: Every active site operating in full compliance, with no lapses in permits, notifications or explosives records. Crews and equipment scheduled with fewer conflicts and less downtime. Invoices issued promptly and receivables kept current. A field team that is well trained, well led and choosing to stay. The Owner/CEO spending less time in daily operations and more time on the growth of the company.
Qualifications & RequirementsRequired Experience:
5+ years of operations management experience, preferably in drilling and blasting, heavy civil construction or mining.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Deep understanding of blasting permits, explosives handling and safety regulations.
Financial Literacy:
Strong background in construction accounting, including experience managing invoicing, A/R and A/P.
Leadership:
Proven ability to supervise field crews and office staff, hold people accountable and resolve conflict fairly.
Communication:
Exceptional leadership and communication skills to work effectively with laborers, bookkeepers and executive ownership.
Mobility:
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time to regional job sites.
Driving:
Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record.
Preferred Certifications:
Blaster license or certification, or the ability to obtain one; OSHA 30; MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 training.
Transport:
CDL with hazardous materials endorsement.
Software:
Experience with construction accounting or job costing software, such as QuickBooks.
Regional Knowledge:
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The Work This role combines field and office work.
You should be comfortable:
Traveling up to 50% of the time to job sites throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Working outdoors on active job sites around heavy equipment, rock, dust, noise and vibration. Walking uneven terrain, climbing and inspecting site conditions in changing weather. Spending extended time at a computer on scheduling, reporting and financial review. Occasional early mornings, long days or overnight travel as projects require. Compensation & Benefits $75,000-$95,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
