SUMMARY The Category Manager / Merchandiser for Service Deli & Bakery has responsibility for all facets of business within the assigned categories of service deli and bakery. This is an onsite position. Candidates must be able to report to the store support center five days a week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Negotiates with vendors for cost of goods, promotional dollars, rebates, delivery terms, payment terms and growth incentives within corporate guidelines. Becomes the category leader during major category reviews and analysis. Is responsible for inter-departmental communication among all related areas that are affected by and influence the category being reviewed. This will include space management, data management, marketing, operations, merchandising and any other department that should be involved in major reviews. Maintains awareness in market trends and analyzes market data from Circana, Nielsen and other reliable sources. Responsible for developing new programs, products, initiatives to continuously improve the assortment offered for sale. Works closely with store management to ensure compliance with all company initiatives, programs, and standards. Stays updated on all competitive situations for key items and reacts when necessary. Interviews vendors for new product presentations and makes decisions on new items. Determines what products will be advertised and promoted in the stores. Analyzes product profitability, selection, display and assortment using category management practices. Uses strong analytical skills to analyze external and internal data, interpret and make decisions and recommendations to management based off this data. Work with Private Label team to develop private label product line to enhance sales and profits. Works with Replenishment Buyers in managing inventory turns, seasonal forecasting, service level, order cycles, deal implementation and general supply chain practices. Budgets and monitors sales and margin plans of the Service Deli and Bakery Departments in accordance with personal and company overall goals. Audits competitive product selection, displays and pricing through on-site visits. Full responsibility for all aspects of sales and merchandising the Service Deli and Bakery Departments. This would include all retail pricing and gross profit within the department. Visits stores to review product, checks and monitors quality, and to verify compliance and schematics with Company policy and procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages field merchandiser that works specifically in the Bakery Department. The field merchandiser's primary responsibility is to train and develop Associates in all facets of the Bakery department. Manages and constantly communicates with Replenishment Buyer to attain budgeted goals in service level and inventory turns. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a 4-year college or university; four years hands-on experience with a full-service Deli/Bakery as well as cake decorating experience; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPENSATION
The starting salary for this position is $89,000.00. The actual starting pay will be determined by a number of qualifications; including, experience and relevant skills.
