This position is an important part of keeping our projects profitable and our field crews productive. The Purchasing Manager will work closely with project managers, foremen, office staff, electrical supply houses, and other vendors to make sure materials are purchased at competitive prices and delivered where and when they are needed We are looking for someone who understands electrical products and materials, is comfortable working with vendors and pricing, and has strong computer and organizational skills. Responsibilities Purchasing electrical materials, equipment, tools, and supplies for projects and company operations Reviewing material requests from project managers and field foremen Creating and managing purchase orders Obtaining competitive pricing from electrical supply houses and other vendors Comparing vendor quotes and determining the best combination of price, availability, lead time, and service Negotiating pricing and purchasing terms with vendors when appropriate Reviewing vendor pricing to help ensure Superior Electric is receiving competitive contractor pricing Monitoring commodity pricing and identifying opportunities for bulk or early purchasing Coordinating material releases for upcoming projects Tracking long-lead equipment and critical project materials Following up with vendors on backorders, shortages, substitutions, and delivery dates Coordinating deliveries to jobsites, the shop, and other company locations Helping prevent unnecessary expedited shipping, duplicate purchases, and last minute material orders Working with project managers to identify major material purchases early in the project Maintaining accurate purchasing records and documentation Matching purchase orders with vendor invoice and identifying pricing or quantity discrepancies Researching incorrect charges, freight charges, duplicate invoices, and other purchasing discrepancies Maintaining relationships with electrical distributors, manufacturers, and other suppliers Assisting with returns, credits, warranties, and damaged or incorrect materials Helping maintain appropriate inventory levels for commonly used electrical materials Identifying opportunities to standardize frequently purchased products Assisting management with tracking material costs and purchasing performance Communicating clearly with field personnel regarding material availability and delivery schedules Performing other purchasing, inventory, and operational duties as needed Experience Electrical product and material experience is required Applicants should have working knowledge of common electrical products including: Conduit and fittings Wire and cable Electrical boxes and devices Breakers and electrical distribution equipment Panels and disconnects Lighting products Electrical controls Commercial electrical materials and accessories Previous electrical supply, electrical contracting, purchasing, estimating, warehouse, project coordination, or similar industry experience Strong understanding of electrical material terminology and product identification Strong computer skills Ability to learn and work with purchasing, accounting, estimating, and inventory software Comfortable using email, spreadsheets, online vendor systems, and electronic purchase orders Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple projects and material requests simultaneously Strong attention to pricing, quantities, part numbers, and order details Ability to communicate professionally with vendors, project managers, foremen, and field employees Ability to negotiate and compare vendor pricing Dependable, reliable, and able to work independently Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record This is not simply an order-entry position. We are looking for someone who will actively manage the purchasing process, watch costs, hold vendors accountable, and help our field operations run more efficiently. We are looking for a successful Purchasing Manager who will help Superior Electric reduce material costs, improve material availability for field crews, reduce wasted field labor caused by missing labor materials, improve coordination between project managers, foremen, and vendors, and improve overall project profitability.
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
