Description:
We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead day-to-day purchasing and supplier management activities within a manufacturing environment. This position will be responsible for ensuring materials and services are procured on time and cost-effectively while maintaining quality, delivery, inventory, and compliance standards. The Purchasing Manager will work closely with Planning, Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Finance to align purchasing activities with production schedules, inventory objectives, and overall business priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage purchasing activities supporting production, repair, and aftermarket demand. Translate MRP and production requirements into timely purchase orders. Ensure material availability while balancing inventory levels, lead times, and cash objectives. Manage supplier performance related to on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, cost, and lead times. Conduct supplier reviews and drive corrective actions when performance issues arise. Develop strong supplier relationships and identify alternate or secondary suppliers to reduce supply chain risk. Support negotiations involving pricing, terms, and lead times. Identify cost-reduction opportunities without compromising quality or delivery. Monitor purchase price variance (PPV) and potential cost escalation risks. Partner with Planning and Operations to address material shortages and production priorities. Work with Quality to resolve supplier-related quality concerns. Support Engineering with sourcing related to ECOs, redesigns, and new product introductions (NPI). Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier, pricing, and lead-time data within ERP systems. Track supply chain KPIs including supplier OTD, material shortages, inventory impact, and cost savings. Drive continuous improvement within purchasing processes and supplier communication. Lead, coach, and develop Buyers and/or Buyer Planners.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive purchasing or supply chain experience within a manufacturing environment. Strong supplier management and purchasing experience in an MRP/ERP-driven environment. Strong understanding of material planning, lead times, inventory management, and manufacturing production requirements. Proficiency with ERP systems. Ability to work cross-functionally and resolve issues within a fast-paced manufacturing operation. Previous leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred. NetSuite ERP experience is a plus. Aerospace, electronics, or regulated manufacturing experience is a plus. Experience supporting NPI, ECOs, or production ramp-ups is preferred.
