Departmental Overview The Student Learning Center supports a global community of learners as they navigate the cultural expectations and academic rigor of UC Berkeley. Through service models that honor their diverse starting points and meet them where they are, we aim to empower all students to realize their full academic potential. The Student Learning Center is part of the Division of Undergraduate Education.

Employs 18 professional staff with disciplinary expertise, 300+ trained undergraduate tutors, and 20 graduate student instructors. Serves as the liaison between Berkeley administration and the DeCal program, a partnership that adds over 300 additional courses to the university's curriculum. Manages Berkeley's Summer Bridge Program, a six-week academic residential program for entering freshmen. Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: May 28, 2026 Responsibilities The incumbent coordinates the Undergraduate Course Facilitator Training and Resources (UCFTR) at the SLC. This includes being responsible for the daily operations of the program, delivering campus-mandated training to first-time student facilitators in the De-Cal program, and supervising a student staff of 2-4. Under the direction of the Program Director, supports the daily operations of the program, including service, program outreach, and maintenance of program protocols Trains De-Cal facilitators in a variety of formats, including workshops, one-on-one consultations, and drop-in service Under the guidance of the Program Director, designs training materials to support DeCal facilitators in meeting the campus-mandated training requirement Trains and supervises 2-4 peer staff on how to facilitate training material, conduct consultation services, and engage in program outreach Cultivates connections with Academic Senate staff, student organizations, the De-Cal board, faculty, and advisors across campus to ensure program visibility Collaborates with SLC colleagues on committees/workgroups to support the administrative needs and overall mission of the Center Supports some administrative needs of the Center, as assigned Required Qualifications Ability to gain knowledge of the DeCal Program and the learning demands of the research university. Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution. Knowledge of learning theories and training models. Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting. Skills in judgment and decision-making Problem-solving skills. Develops knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural issues in applying academic support for students. Develops knowledge of current and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific; student-population specific). Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations. Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to communicate information in small and large group settings. Proficient computer skills, including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems. Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $29.31 - $39.69 This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly. This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. Other Information This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between UAW (United Auto Workers) and the University of California Regents for RP or SV. This is not a visa opportunity. This position does not include sponsorship of a new consular H-1B visa petition that would require payment of the $100,000 supplemental fee.
