The Sports Program Lead is responsible for creating a safe, structured, and engaging environment where students can participate in sports, physical activities, and team-building experiences after the school day. This position requires strong leadership, communication, classroom management, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, has a passion for sports and physical activity, and can serve as a positive role model while maintaining the high standards and expectations of Kicks to Learn. Responsibilities Lead and facilitate daily after-school sports and enrichment activities for elementary-aged students Teach and lead age-appropriate sports activities such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, and other physical activities Create a fun, safe, and structured environment that encourages participation and teamwork Supervise students throughout the after-school program and maintain appropriate student-to-staff supervision Manage student behavior using positive and consistent behavior-management strategies Provide clear instructions and demonstrations for sports, games, and activities Encourage students of all skill levels to participate and develop confidence in their abilities Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, communication, and positive peer interactions Follow Kicks to Learn curriculum, program expectations, and safety procedures Maintain accurate attendance and complete incident reports when necessary Communicate professionally with school staff, Kicks to Learn leadership, students, and families when appropriate Ensure equipment is properly used, organized, and stored at the end of each program day Assist with student transitions, dismissal, and other daily after-school responsibilities Serve as a positive role model and represent Kicks to Learn professionally at all times Maintain a clean, organized, and safe activity environment Follow all school-site policies and Kicks to Learn procedures Qualifications & Skills Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, childcare, sports, camp, or youth program setting preferred Previous coaching, teaching, tutoring, or youth sports experience is a plus Strong classroom and behavior-management skills Comfortable leading groups of children in sports and physical activities Strong communication and leadership skills Ability to create and maintain a structured and positive learning environment Dependable, punctual, and responsible Ability to work independently while also being an effective team member Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors Ability to adapt activities to different ages, abilities, and skill levels Strong understanding of teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive youth development First Aid/CPR certification is a plus Experience working with children with different learning, behavioral, or support needs is preferred Must be able to actively participate in and demonstrate sports and physical activities What We're Looking For The ideal Sports Program Lead is someone who is energetic, dependable, patient, organized, and passionate about working with children. You should be comfortable taking the lead, managing a group, keeping students engaged, and creating a positive environment where every child feels included. Consistency is extremely important in our after-school programs. Program Leads are expected to arrive on time, be prepared for each shift, follow the Kicks to Learn curriculum and policies, and provide students with a safe and positive experience every day.
