Job Description About the Role The Youth Summit Intern is an opportunity, funded by the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Science Initiative to support students aspiring to work in museums and provide them with hands on experience in a museum setting. This internship supports one of the Huntington's signature events for teens and offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in developing relevant programming supporting youth, educators, and community organizations on civic engagement and integrating the arts. The successful candidate will work with colleagues in the School Programs and Partnerships department and across the Education and Public Engagement division, gaining insights into K-12 student-centered programming, community co-design, curriculum development, and evaluation. The intern will produce a capstone project to present at an Education and Public Engagement division meeting. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This 9-week, full-time opportunity from June 1 - July 31 is perfect for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in museum or informal education or youth civic engagement. S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach. Essential Duties Participate in Internship programming led by the Internship Coordinator Create a final project based on the work done during the 12 week internship on a topic of their interest to present at an Education and Public Engagement division meeting. Support all aspects of The Huntington's Youth Summit Teacher Institute (July 6-10) for teachers and community partner educators and teaching artists, including on-site logistics, and program administration and evaluation. Support logistics planning and program development for the Fall Youth Summit Kickoff and Spring Showcase, including helping to identify speakers and performers, synthesizing educator feedback, scheduling, and communications. Synthesize and summarize data. Review activity on the Youth Summit Teacher Institute Google Classroom. Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions, contributing original ideas and feedback. Research current trends in high school student-centered museum programming. Administer evaluation surveys for programs and audience research through the Collaboration for Ongoing Visitor Experiences Studies (COVES) project. May perform other related duties as assigned Candidate Requirements and Experience Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Must be a current university student or recent graduate (1 year max) Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate degree in education, child and adolescent development, art, history, botany, or any related field OR holds great interest in any related field. Interest in informal learning in a cultural institution. Excellent oral communication, customer service, and organizational skills. Ability to be flexible and responsive to feedback from staff and to visitor needs. Ability to engage with, listen to, and learn from a broad range of audiences and groups, encouraging their meaningful participation in programming. Experience working both collaboratively and independently on projects

Preferred:

Experience with designing or guiding experiences for teens. Experience gathering and processing quantitative and/or qualitative data. Interest in U.S. and local history, research, and civic engagement.
