Foster Coordinator 2364 Lpga Boulevard, Daytona Beach, FL 32124 $18.50 an hour - Full-time $18.50 an hour - Full-time Join the team of animal welfare excellence at Halifax Humane Society! Now seeking a motivated individual for the Foster Coordinator position. Applicants must be compassionate, team focused, detail-oriented and flexible. Excellent customer service skills and organizational skills are required, in addition to the ability to self-start and grow the programs. Summary The Foster Coordinator plays a critical, fast-paced role in lifesaving at Halifax Humane Society by driving the placement of animals into foster homes quickly, efficiently, and with exceptional customer service. This position requires a highly organized, tech-savvy, and solutions-oriented professional who thrives under pressure, communicates with urgency, and follows through relentlessly to ensure positive outcomes for animals, fosters, and partners. This role oversees the day-to-day operations of the foster program while building strong relationships with foster caregivers, rescue partners, and transport organizations. The Foster Coordinator is responsible for moving animals through the system efficiently reducing length of stay, increasing capacity for care, and supporting lifesaving efforts through foster placement and rescue coordination. Key Responsibilities Foster Program Operations & Growth Manage and execute all daily foster program operations with a strong sense of urgency and accountability Rapidly identify animals needing foster placement and actively coordinate timely movement into homes Match animals with appropriate foster caregivers based on medical, behavioral, and logistical needs Track and manage all foster placements, outcomes, and capacity using shelter software and data tools Continuously evaluate program performance and implement improvements to increase efficiency and lifesaving impact Develop and expand foster program offerings (medical, neonatal, behavior, short-term, field trips, etc.) Customer Service & Foster Support Deliver exceptional, responsive customer service to foster caregivers, volunteers, and the public Serve as the primary point of contact for foster caregivers—responding quickly to questions, concerns, and urgent needs Provide clear expectations, education, and ongoing support to ensure successful foster experiences Proactively follow up with fosters to ensure compliance, animal wellbeing, and timely next steps (adoption, return, transfer) Resolve concerns and conflicts professionally, with empathy and strong problem-solving skills Rescue, Transport & Partner Relations Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with rescue organizations and transport partners Coordinate animal transfers, transports, and rescue placements with urgency and precision Identify placement opportunities for at-risk animals and actively communicate with partners to secure outcomes Ensure all required documentation, medical records, and communications are accurate and timely Serve as a liaison representing Halifax Humane Society in regional and national lifesaving networks Cross-Departmental Collaboration Work closely with medical, behavior, admissions, and placement teams to prioritize and move animals efficiently Participate in daily rounds and case discussions to identify barriers and implement immediate solutions Coordinate care plans and ensure fosters are equipped to support medical and behavioral needs Partner with marketing to promote foster needs, urgent cases, and adoption pathways Volunteer Recruitment, Training & Engagement Recruit, onboard, train, and retain foster caregivers through consistent outreach and communication Develop training materials and resources to support foster success Engage foster volunteers through regular updates, recognition, and relationship-building Support fosters as "adoption ambassadors" to help promote animals in their care Technology, Data & Organization Maintain accurate, real-time data in shelter management systems (e.g., PetPoint, Airtable, Trellio, etc.) Utilize technology and communication tools (email, texting platforms, social media, databases) to streamline processes Analyze data related to foster utilization, length of stay, and outcomes to drive decisions Stay highly organized while managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and communications simultaneously Required Skills & Attributes Strong sense of urgency and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Exceptional customer service and communication skills (written and verbal) Highly organized with excellent follow-through and attention to detail Tech-savvy with the ability to quickly learn and utilize multiple systems and tools Problem-solver who can think critically and adapt quickly to changing priorities Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines without losing momentum Professional, collaborative, and mission-driven mindset Experience Experience in animal welfare, sheltering, rescue, or related field preferred Experience working with volunteers, customers, or community programs highly desirable Previous coordination, logistics, or program management experience a plus Work Environment Fast-paced, high-energy environment with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities Regular interaction with animals, staff, volunteers, and the public Exposure to noise, odors, cleaning chemicals, and animal-related environments Weekend, holiday, and occasional after-hours availability may be required Physical Requirements Ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes (up to 75 lbs) Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting Ability to safely handle animals in a shelter environment Employment Requirements Successful completion of criminal background check Negative drug screening Valid driver's license with clean driving record for past 3 years
