The corrections recovery program coordinator is responsible for providing peer recovery support services, including recovery coaching, to justice-involved individuals, and assisting the director of the Corrections Recovery Coaching Program (CRCP) in implementing programs, services, and activities funded by a federal grant program. The coordinator will draw from their own lived experiences of recovery and incarceration to connect with and inspire individuals undergoing similar challenges. Recovery coaching may involve goal setting, coping strategies, re-entry support, and assistance in accessing relevant resources, all within the context of the unique challenges present in a corrections environment. This is an exempt position and is based on a 40-hour work week. The corrections recovery program coordinator may work occasional evenings or weekend days to support community events and meetings. This position is grant-funded through the SAMHSA Building Communities of Recovery (BCOR) grant program.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Grant Management Support and Coordination Provide peer recovery support services and long-term recovery support for incarcerated individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders in state prisons and county jails in Iowa. Serve on the Corrections Recovery Coaching Program advisory committee and help ensure continuous improvement of corrections programs and services. Help initiate, maintain, and grow relationships with key grant program partners and other community organizations and institutions. Assist with implementation of the plan to reduce discrimination and stigma for individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders and in recovery, including educational sessions and peer series sessions where peers-recoverees share their recovery journeys. Support and assist with data collection, reporting, and evaluation strategies. Advocate for the rights and well-being of individuals with substance misuse or mental health conditions within the justice system. Peer Recovery Support Services Engage in recovery coaching with incarcerated individuals in state prisons and county jails, as well as with those involved with community-based corrections and other settings. Practice appropriate self-disclosure of personal recovery experiences to inspire and motivate individuals to seek positive change. Utilize and implement evidence-based practices to identify individual needs to assist with setting realistic and achievable recovery goals. Re-entry Planning Assist individuals in developing reentry plans that address housing, employment, and other ongoing support post-release. Connect individuals with community resources to enhance their chances of successful reintegration, including peer recovery support services at the Full Circle Recovery Community Center. Individualized Recovery Plans Develop individualized recovery plans tailored to each person's unique circumstances and goals. Provide guidance on accessing relevant resources and services in recoverees' communities. Support and encourage multiple pathways of recovery, including harm reduction strategies. Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and progress. Educate individuals on available treatment options, recovery resources, coping strategies, and self-advocacy. Self-Care and Professional Development Practice self-care to maintain personal well-being and resilience. Engage in ongoing training and professional development to stay informed about best practices in recovery coaching on topics such as ethics, boundaries, communication skills, recovery principles, and have an understanding of addiction and multiple pathways of recovery.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Personal experience with substance use disorder, mental health conditions, recovery, and/or justice system involvement. Knowledge of or personal experience with recovery systems, medication-assisted treatment, multiple pathways of recovery, harm reduction, criminal justice systems, person-centered approaches, and peer recovery support services. Familiarity with the criminal justice system and an understanding of the challenges faced by individuals in correctional settings. Experience with grant program coordination is preferred. Relevant education and/or experience in nonprofit management, public administration, criminal justice, counseling, human services, social work, or related field within the nonprofit sector. Must agree to complete the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy, Ethical Consideration for Recovery Coaches, and Recovery Coaching in Justice Settings within six months of hire. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with individuals in corrections setting. Ability to listen empathetically and provide support without judgment. Demonstrated empathy and cultural competency to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Skills in conflict resolution and de-escalation strategies to assist with challenging situations that may arise in a corrections setting. Knowledge of and commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom), and data entry. Valid driver's license, good driving record, car insurance, and reliable transportation.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work is performed in a typical office or administrative environment as well as at partner organizations in the community.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Driving, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, lifting, reaching, talking, hearing, grasping and finger dexterity, repetitive motions. Sitting approximately 50 percent of the time. Standing approximately 20 percent of the time. Walking approximately 20 percent of the time. Driving approximately 10 percent of the time. Requires the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force continuously. Up to 50 pounds of force infrequently to lift or otherwise move objects.VISION REQUIREMENTS
