Part Time Description Mission:
DREAM Alive (DA) helps break the cycle of poverty by helping vulnerable youth discover career paths and mentoring them from 6th grade until high school graduation.
About DA:
DREAM Alive is an Indianapolis based 501c3 nonprofit that has been serving vulnerable and underserved youth since 2001. Saying it another way, DA addresses racial and economic inequity for youth in Indianapolis, by helping them develop career paths and increasing their wealth opportunities. DA's 7-year continuum of programming and support is designed to help vulnerable youth develop a career path, develop soft skills, and develop a professional network before high school graduation. The combination of a high school degree, a clear career path, and a large professional network, provides youth a real opportunity to be the first in their family to break the cycle of poverty. DA's programs and services have seen very encouraging measurable results since 2010. We have seen a 99% high school graduation rate, with 96% of our youth on a career path (accepted to college, trade, or military), and 69% of our youth are accepted to college.
Position Overview:
  • Provide support and implementation for DREAM Alive's after-school programming, trips, and lessons.
  • Learn under the direction of the Youth Program leadership, skills needed to advance mentoring and relationships in our schools.
  • Be an advocate with DREAM Alive by being a part of our team, joining the team as we build bridges within the community.
  • Bring consistent adult relationships into DREAM Alive's after-school program with the main goal being to interact alongside youth staff.
  • Build relationships with scholars in a positive, empowering, life-on-life way during their time in the program under the guidance of DREAM Alive's Youth Program leadership.
The part-time program intern will work in coordination with staff and under the direction of the Program Director.
Location:
DA has (6) Middle School locations that our part-time program interns will work at including Arlington middle school, Howe middle school, Longfellow middle school, Northwest middle school, William Penn middle school and Paramount Englewood middle school.
Responsibilities Specific Duties and Responsibilites:
  • Support Program and Site Director in the day to day operations and activities of the program by becoming an extension of leadership and supervision.
  • Interact with youth through healthy relationships as lead by Program and Site Director.
  • Interact and lead with DREAM Alive, Inc. volunteers and partners.
  • Participate in outreach to recruit students and families to identify students for programming. Ensures students, interns, and volunteers are safe by re-enforcing program goals.
  • Participates in the evaluation of the program, staff, and students.
  • Communicates about positive achievements as well as problems or issues with Site Director.
Qualifications Qualifications:
  • A passion to serve underserved youth populations, and a passion for racial reconciliation and racial justice.
  • Strong ability to develop and grow relationships with youth.
  • Entrepreneur / Ownership mentality.
  • Works in a team very well.
  • Teachability & willingness to learn is a must.
  • Complete a background check with the State of Indiana.
  • Attend regular program staff meetings. Program interns must have availability Monday
  • Thursday from 3:00 PM-6:00 PM and 10:30 AM-1 PM a couple of days a week (depending on the school that you will be assigned to) Learning Objectives Will gain real-world internship experience within a school environment.
Will have opportunities to mentor and provide character development to youth. Will have opportunities to gain leadership skills by leading character development and career development lessons.
