Standard Internship $ Paid $15.00/hr Part Time Description Position Summary The Communications & Social Media Intern supports the Office of Workforce and Community Engagement (OWCE) by assisting with the planning, creation, scheduling, and evaluation of social media content across multiple platforms. This role plays a key part in highlighting community engagement initiatives, employer partnerships, student workforce engagement, and office programming. This position will contribute to the ongoing development of OWCE's social media presence, strategy, and content approach. The intern will work closely with OWCE staff to maintain a consistent digital presence, develop engaging content, and support storytelling efforts that showcase the office's work across campus and the broader Indianapolis community. This intern will report to the Senior Communications Manager. Responsibilities Social Media Management & Content Creation Assist in managing OWCE social media accounts (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube) Create and schedule posts, stories, and short-form content that highlight programs, events, partnerships, and student workforce engagement Assist in developing content that highlights student experiential learning, university-community partnerships, and real-world learning experiences, as well as their impact locally, statewide, and globally Support development of a content calendar aligned with office priorities and events Write social media captions and post copy aligned with OWCE and IU Indianapolis messaging and brand guidelines Source, organize, and prepare photos, graphics, and short-form videos for social media use Storytelling & Communications Support Assist in developing content that highlights student experiential learning, university-community partnerships, and program impact Conduct light research or interviews for story development as needed Support creation of digital storytelling assets (spotlights, reels, recaps, testimonials) Provide basic photography and visual documentation support at events and programs as needed Analytics & Engagement Track basic social media performance metrics (engagement, reach, growth) Assist in preparing monthly or semester-based summary reports Monitor engagement and help identify trends and content opportunities Collaboration & Administrative Support Collaborate with OWCE staff to promote events and initiatives Maintain shared content folders and support digital asset organization Support occasional communications tasks such as e-blasts, event promotion, or web updates Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Interest or experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related fields Strong writing skills with attention to tone, clarity, and audience Familiarity with social media platforms (especially Instagram and LinkedIn) Basic design skills (Canva or similar tools preferred but not required) Ability to work independently and meet deadlines Strong organizational skills and willingness to learn new tools Interest in community engagement, higher education, or storytelling Learning Objectives Learning Outcomes By the end of this internship, students will: Gain hands-on experience managing institutional social media accounts Learn how to translate programmatic work into compelling digital storytelling Develop skills in content planning, branding consistency, and audience engagement Build experience analyzing communication metrics and using data to inform strategy
