  • Experience working with youth in school or community setting is preferred, but not required. .
  • Experience in public speaking is preferred.
  • Experience successfully utilizing tools such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Be highly motivated, energetic, dependable and knowledgeable.
Required License/Registration/Certification none Physical Requirements none Shift 10-15 hours a week, M-F, times will vary Applicant must have one day of full availability in order to facilitate presentations. Please include your weekly availability.
Job Summary NOTE:
No prior knowledge on the topic of tobacco use or public health is needed. The program will provide comprehensive training.
NOTE:
The position may be used to fulfill practicum hours if needed.
Position Objective:
To provide tobacco use prevention services to youth, families and community members across Kentucky.
Position Description:
Supervised by the Program Director, the Youth Prevention Specialist works in schools and communities to facilitate tobacco use prevention services based on the #iCANendthetrend framework, which include: 1. Prevention Education2. Information Dissemination3. Youth Empowerment4.
Professional Development Position Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with schools, parent-teacher groups, civic organizations, church groups, and other youth and community organizations in eastern KY counties to provide information and awareness on youth tobacco use, including e-cigarettes.
  • Implement peer-to-peer prevention program to provide information and awareness on youth tobacco use, including e-cigarettes.
  • Assist in providing orientation or information sessions for parents, teachers, staff or administrators in target area school and community sites when requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director to meet program objectives.
