Director of Philanthropy ($89,000 - $137,100 annually)

Edenwald Senior Living, a premier life plan community located in the suburbs of Towson, Maryland is searching for a dynamic Director of Philanthropy. The Director of Philanthropy works closely with the CEO to develop multi-year strategies aligned with community strategic plans, providing high-level stewardship and support of potential donors. They are responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of planned and major gifts. The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for initiating a multi-pronged gift program: Board-Residents-Resident's Sponsors-Employees-Vendors-Internal/External Partners. Cultivating the expansion and stewardship of Edenwald's relationships with local and national fundholders, professional advisors such as attorneys, wealth and financial advisors, trust officers, life insurance professionals and accountants.

Responsibilities Gift Planning:

Participate in the preparation of marketing materials and content for direct solicitation and education of residents regarding the philanthropic vision of Edenwald. To include such focus areas as Community Naming Rights, Benevolent Assistance, Employee Scholarship Fund, and internal resident legacy planned gift opportunities, to name a few. Respond to inquiries from prospects, donor representatives and professional advisors regarding current and planned gifts. Assist donors in researching giving options and professional advisors that meet their financial and philanthropic intentions. Work with legal and financial advisors to draft and prepare fund agreements, obtain documentation and work with the Vice President of Finance and Administration to review completion of documentation and ensure it meets GGAPH standards and protocols. Maintain a high level of expertise regarding state and federal income, estate and inheritance taxes, gift and estate giving methods and the legal aspects of charitable giving.

Major Donor Prospect Management:

Lead the implementation of a planned giving/donor database. Through research of potential donor base, create a portfolio of specialized funds for giving opportunities and stewardship. Work closely with the GGAPH Board and local/national fundholders who seek specialized support for their charitable giving. Identify individual and organizational prospects for cultivation and engagement with a goal of encouraging gifts in support of Edenwald initiatives and the development of legacy gifts.

Professional Advisors:

Educate professional advisors about Edenwald's services and charitable giving options through in-person meetings. This will include large and small group sessions. Promptly and accurately respond to professional advisor requests for information about Edenwald's services and charitable giving options. Expand and update Edenwald's database of professional advisors; identify new advisors and track contacts with advisors and client referrals. Serve as liaison to the company that hosts Edenwald's planned giving website. Identify and create content and manage donor stories.

Gift Acceptance:

Under the direction of the CEO and CFO, engage and serve as primary contact with legal counsel on issues related to all gifts. Create and update the gift acceptance policies as needed.

Special Events:

Participate in events for professional advisors and in recognition of legacy donors. Design and participate in targeted prospective donor and professional advisor educational programs. Travel periodically to conferences, donor meetings, and events held locally or out of state. Travel is limited to no more than 10% of the job requirements. Participate in other Edenwald events as needed.

Grant Opportunities:

Research and identify grant opportunities appropriate to the mission of the organization. As appropriate, develop, create or coordinate completion of grant submissions. Miscellaneous Develop and maintain printed and online marketing materials and communications for professional advisors and Edenwald residents and friends to promote charitable giving for agreed upon priorities. Contribute to Edenwald publications and marketing materials by providing data, reports, content and proofreading as needed. Participate in the creation of annual development plans, goals and strategies. Attend staff meetings and serve on internal committees as appropriate. Represent Edenwald at meetings and events which may occur during or outside of normal work hours. Enlist resident and GGAPH board volunteers. Attain annual mutually agreed upon fundraising benchmarks. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred. Minimum of 10 years of experience in fundraising, planned giving, or related financial or legal fields. Advanced certification preferred (CFP, CFRE, CSPG, AEP, CAP). Understanding of estate planning, income, capital gain and estate tax issues. Ability to initiate conversations with professional advisors and prospective and current donors. Ability to present to groups of individuals from various professions and backgrounds. Advanced computer skills, to include Word, Excel, Outlook and Raiser's Edge or similar program. Possess a high level of diplomacy skills. Maintain confidentiality and use good judgment, discretion, decision-making and professional and ethical work standards. Project a positive, helpful attitude and a commitment to customer service in all internal and external interactions. Ability to plan, prioritize and organize internal and external stakeholders to achieve goals. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.
