Job Description
Position Overview El Centro's Homework Club is an after school one-on-one tutoring program. Homework Club connects Hispanic elementary students to volunteer tutors twice a week. All participants come from homes where English is not the primary language. Tutors help their students grow with individualized literacy and math support. The main branch of Homework Club is located in Brevard, but El Centro recently opened the Rosman Homework Club branch in March of 2026 to expand programming to Rosman Elementary School students. The Youth Program Specialist supports the implementation of after-school programming at the Rosman Homework Club after school tutoring program. The Youth Program Specialist prepares the tutoring space and materials, communicates with volunteer tutors, tutors a child during the tutoring session, and oversees dismissal and clean-up. This role combines direct youth work and program support. Homework Club & On-Site Program Duties Prepare and organize learning materials for daily programming Maintain El Centro libraries and educational resources Ensure tutoring spaces are prepared and welcoming for students and volunteers Ensure each student has a complete and organized learning folder Ensure snacks are prepared and available for each session Communicate with volunteer tutors, including student attendance updates Greet students and tutors and foster a positive, inclusive environment Monitor tutoring sessions and support tutors as needed Tutor a child in grades K-5 in reading and math Communicate with families regarding attendance and late pick-ups Supervise dismissal and ensure all students are safely picked up Maintain cleanliness and organization of program spaces Assist with Homework Club field trips and special activities Program Development & Team Collaboration Communicate tutor feedback and program needs to the Program Coordinator Participate in tutor trainings, meetings, and organizational gatherings Collaborate with staff and volunteers to develop new learning materials and program improvements Qualifications Appreciation of and respect for El Centro's multicultural community Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills Experience working with elementary-aged children in an educational setting Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and reliability Full professional proficiency in
