Early Literacy Program Coordinator FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt | Part-Time (less than 20 hours/week)
Reports To:
Youth Services Librarian Position Summary West Chester Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Early Literacy Program Coordinator to develop and deliver engaging early literacy programming for children from birth through age five. This position supports the library's mission by fostering early learning, family engagement, and a love of reading through age-appropriate educational programs and activities. Key Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and present early literacy programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers. Manage program registration and scheduling using LibCal (online event management system). Create promotional materials for programs in print and digital formats. Assist in maintaining collections, supplies, and program materials related to early literacy services. Support the planning and preparation of crafts, activities, and special events, including the Summer Reading Challenge. Maintain a welcoming, engaging, and safe environment for children and families during programs. North Church Street West Chester, PA 19380 Qualifications & Skills Required Skills Strong presentation and storytelling skills for children's programming. Proficiency with document creation and design software for promotional materials. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to engage and manage active groups of young children in a program setting. Preferred Knowledge Familiarity with children's literature and early literacy practices. Knowledge of child development and Pennsylvania educational standards is preferred. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree preferred. 1-2 years of experience in children's services, youth programming, or public library service preferred. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to: Lift, handle, and move library materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Move book trucks weighing up to 125 pounds. Sit or stand at a computer workstation or public service desk for extended periods (up to 4 hours). Stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and work in confined areas as needed.
