About Better Together:
The Better Together Project , a program of The Educational Edge, is an inclusive social and recreational program designed to create authentic friendships, belonging, independence, and meaningful community experiences for neurodiverse young adults. Better Together brings young adults together for age-appropriate social activities, community outings, recreation, service projects, life-skills experiences, and opportunities to develop friendships.
The Position:
We are looking for a warm, creative, organized and highly dependable Program & Community Coordinator who believes deeply in inclusion and enjoys connecting people. This is a unique position combining program coordination, community outreach, social media, event planning and relationship building. The ideal candidate is someone who can take an idea and make it happen—from finding a great local activity and coordinating the details to creating a social media post and communicating with families. Above all, we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with neurodiverse young adults and understands the importance of dignity, patience, empathy and authentic inclusion.
Responsibilities:
Help plan and schedule age-appropriate social activities for young adults Research local events, restaurants, recreation, classes, volunteer opportunities and other community experiences Coordinate activity logistics, reservations, schedules and calendars Assist with communication Develop relationships with local businesses and organizations to create partnerships Help recruit and engage peer participants, volunteers and community supporters Create engaging content for social media Take photos and help highlight Better Together activities Help promote upcoming programs and events Maintain organized program information and schedules Assist with program growth
Preferred:
Patient and empathetic Passionate about inclusion and neurodiversity Comfortable interacting with autistic and neurodiverse young adults Highly organized Creative and resourceful Comfortable taking initiative and working independently A strong communicator Skilled with social media and basic digital tools Comfortable reaching out to businesses and community organizations Able to coordinate multiple schedules, activities and details Positive, flexible and collaborative Someone who sees strengths and possibilities in others Experience in special education, autism, recreation, non-profit work, social services, community programming, event planning or disability services is helpful but not required. Character, reliability, creativity and a genuine commitment to inclusion are extremely important to us. College students or recent graduates in related programs may also be excellent candidates.
