Part-time Part-Time Transportation Associate Job Description Organization Summary:
The Intercultural Community Center (ICC) is a Westbrook non-profit that provides free and accessible education, health, and social services to immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
Adult Program Summary:
The Adult Education Program works to support New Mainers by offering free educational workshops and English classes for those in Westbrook and the Greater Portland area. Our goal is to support and improve the lives of New Mainers so that they can, not only survive, but thrive in the United States.
Youth Program Summary:
The Intercultural Community Center's (ICC) Power School program offers a structured, well-rounded afterschool program to students grade 5-8, with a special emphasis on supporting immigrant and refugee children. In addition to offering daily homework help, the program consists of hands-on, dynamic classes in several subjects. At Power School, we use a project-based approach to education that will set students up for success in the present and future. During the summer, our program offers Power Summer, a seven week program that runs in the mornings in conjunction with Westbrook Middle School.
Position Summary:
The Transport Associate (part-time) is an enthusiastic and flexible member of the Intercultural Community Center (ICC) team. The primary responsibility of the Transport Associate is to provide transportation to/from ICC for our registered students. ICC strives to provide free educational, health, and social services and resources to immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers within the greater Portland area. This position is primarily for the youth program, with coverage for the adult program only on an as needed basis.
Qualifications:
  • Clean driving record with a valid driver's license
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must be a safe driver and comfortable driving a 12 or 15 passenger van
  • Experience working with immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers and/or open-mindedness to support New Mainers
  • Be friendly, open-minded, and adaptable
  • Experience with kids in or out of the classroom
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide transportation services (pick up and drop off) to registered program students
  • Manage daily routes around Westbrook and Portland through Google maps
  • Maintain the gas, maintenance and general cleanliness of the van
  • Work effectively and communicate openly in a team environment
  • Knowledgeable with Google Suite platforms (Google docs and Google sheets etc) and Microsoft Office
  • A smart-phone with maps capacity
  • Multilingual language ability a major plus
Schedule:
Youth Program During the school year, the schedule is focused on afternoons and the after school time frame. In person days are required when students are on-site, staff meetings, training or as needed. Power School follows the Westbrook School Department calendar. During the summer, programming is increased and hours increase due to extended program offering to students. Typically, summer hours are switched to mornings instead of afternoons in the summer to accommodate transportation availability for students. A work from home schedule can be coordinated with the Youth Program Director on an as needed basis. Current hours include up to 25 hours a week for the school year and 30 hours a week for the summer. The summer schedule is approx. 7:30am-2pm, Monday through Friday. No nights or holidays should be needed. One Saturday, August 8th will be required. Adult Program The adult class schedule offers classes for students in a trimester; September
  • December, January
  • May and June
  • August.
Classes are usually in the mornings (unless otherwise decided) and run for two hours each. The Transport Associate will run pick up and drop off approximately one hour before class starts and one hour after class ends. Coverage for this route will only occur on an as needed basis.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (desired but not required) in Education, Youth Management and/or any related fields OR three years of relevant work experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledgeable with Google Suite and Microsoft Suite
  • Adaptable, collaborative, organized, and strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills
  • Able to multitask
  • Additional language skills outside English a plus
  • Complete First Aid/CPR and youth mental first aid training and mandated reporter training.
Renew these certifications every two years
Legal and Ethical Duties:
  • Maintains confidentiality about all aspects of the programs including but not limited to student personal information
  • Demonstrates a respect for the legal and human rights of students, staff, and parents
  • Follows all health and safety procedures established by the Westbrook School District and ICC
  • Arrives and departs punctually, coordinating absences and coverage with the Youth Program Director
  • Demonstrates loyalty, dependability, integrity, and other ethical standards
Compensation:
$20 per hour
Job Type:
Part-time, at-will, non-exempt ICC part-time positions are considered at-will employment and do not offer other benefits that include insurance, retirement plans, additional compensation, paid sick leave or holidays off.
