Job Description

The position The Director of Community-Based Youth Centers holds the shared vision, structure, and accountability for Elevate's teen and young adult centers in Barre and Montpelier. This person makes it possible for each Basement Director to lead their own site well while ensuring that both centers remain safe, welcoming, youth-centered, fi nancially responsible, and connected to the larger work of Elevate Youth Services. The Director is both an internal leader and an external bridge-builder. They protect the integrity of the model, build the relationships that sustain it, and step in when either center needs additional leadership or support. Core responsibilities Supervise, support, and develop the Barre and Montpelier Basement Directors through regular individual supervision, shared planning, clear expectations, and meaningful feedback. Create alignment across the two centers while preserving the distinct relationships, rhythms, partnerships, and culture of each community. Manage the Basement Teen Centers' budgets, monitor spending, approve purchases, and work with Elevate's administrative team to maintain accurate financial records and projections. Oversee grants and contracts connected to the teen centers, including contract fidelity, deliverables, data collection, reporting, and communication with funders. Lead program-wide risk management, emergency planning, incident review, mandated reporting support, and continuous improvement of safety practices. Serve as the primary organizational lead during significant teen center incidents or emergencies and provide on-site coverage or leadership when needed. Coordinate hiring, onboarding, performance management, and, when necessary, corrective action or separation for Basement Directors in partnership with the Executive Director. Support site directors with hiring and staff development for their teams. Establish shared systems, policies, and practices for staffing, supervision, volunteers, youth leadership, purchasing, documentation, transportation, trips, and program operations. Oversee Elevate's consistent presence within both centers and help staff connect young people to the full range of Elevate services and community supports. Community leadership and advocacy Build and sustain strong partnerships with host libraries, schools, municipalities, youth-serving organizations, families, neighbors, and other community members. Represent the Basement Teen Centers at Community Partnership Team meetings, situation tables, and other coordinated community response spaces when appropriate. Serve as the primary liaison with local police departments while protecting the centers' low-barrier, youth-centered approach and Elevate's commitment to trust and belonging. Represent the centers in community meetings, public presentations, fundraising conversations, and media opportunities in partnership with the Executive Director. Support fundraising and resource development, including grant writing, donor engagement, community events, site visits, program storytelling, and stewardship. Participate in legislative advocacy and public policy work that strengthens supports for teenagers, young adults, and communities of care. Data, learning, and quality Ensure that both centers collect useful, respectful, and accurate participation and outcome data without turning relationships with young people into transactions.

Prepare program reports and use youth feedback, staff learning, incidents, participation patterns, and community input to strengthen the model. Create regular opportunities for the two site teams to learn from one another, solve problems together, and build a shared culture. Keep youth voice and decision-making central to program design, evaluation, and change. What we are looking for A grounded, relational leader who can hold people, details, partnerships, and complexity at the same time. Experience supervising program leaders and building teams rooted in clarity, trust, accountability, and care. Experience with budgets, grants, contracts, reporting, risk management, and community partnerships. A strong understanding of adolescent development, trauma, harm reduction, positive youth development, addiction, and the ways racism, poverty, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of oppression affect young people. The ability to respond calmly to crises, make sound decisions, communicate clearly, and ask for help when needed. A commitment to low-barrier services, youth power, belonging, and the belief that young people do not need to earn care. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends and to respond to urgent program needs across Barre and Montpelier. Minimum qualifications At least five years of progressively responsible experience in youth services, community-based programs, education, human services, or a related field, including supervisory experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of lived experience, education, and professional experience. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel regularly between Barre, Montpelier, and Berlin. Ability to complete required background checks and maintain certifications required by Elevate Working Environment EYS's youth programs represent fast-paced, dynamic environments. The program participants experience successes and challenges on a daily basis. The program offers many opportunities for creative program development, while maintaining appropriate accountability for the participants. Evening and weekend work will be required. EYS provides direct services to youth and families in Washington County, as well as administration of several statewide programs. Its mission is to promote safety, competence, and confidence as youth create their path through adolescence and into adulthood. All EYS employees attend a staff meeting once a month, as well as other staff development events throughout the year.
