Humane Education Coordinator Position Summary:
The Humane Society of Chittenden County is looking for a Head Counselor for our humane education youth programs! The Head Counselor is a part-time temporary (seasonal) position serving as the day-to-day coordinator and program director for Camp Paw Paw, HSCC's humane education camp for children ages 5-12. The Head Counselor must attend a pre-camp training ( June 30-July 1 ) and be available for all of the camp sessions ( Monday, July 6th - Friday, August 14th, 2026 ). In addition to supporting Camp Paw Paw, the Head Counselor will also have the opportunity to assist with HSCC's other humane education program, Animal Welfare Warriors ( ages 13-15; June 22nd - 26th ). Availability to assist with Animal Welfare Warriors is a plus, but not required.Essential Functions:
Ensuring the functional operation of each one-week camp session Oversee the end of each week of CPP is closed out and the beginning of each camp week is prepped (email to parents, photo album link, daily posting, nametags, cleanliness, contact list for emergencies, etc.) Assign checking in and signing out of campers at the beginning and end of each day to one of the CPP counselors or yourself. Supervising assistant and junior counselors, if any Facilitating all camp activities and working with scheduled guest speakers Ensuring a positive, fun, and safe camp experience for all campers Serving as a contact for parents, HSCC staff, and other camp partners Responsible for becoming familiar with and implementing Camp Paw Paw's humane education based curriculum Assign the daily Instagram post to yourself or another CPP Counselor Other duties as assigned and neededKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Exemplary organizational skills Adept and flexible multi-tasking abilities Interest and skills in working with children Interest in animals and commitment to animal welfare Upbeat, friendly, and outgoing personality Ability to work well under pressure and to deal with challenges quickly, decisively, and appropriately Willingness to: work as a team member, pitch in as needed, and have fun Experience and/or training in education a significant plus!Requirements:
