Special Programs Manager

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Special Programs Manager is a key player in the areas of community relations and participant engagement and retention. This individual delivers high quality, focused curriculum and outcome-driven engagement activities and resources while providing leadership, support, and guidance to mentors (Bigs), parents, and youth (Littles) to enhance their positive relationships and outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

Develop, update and deliver a dedicated social-emotional learning (SEL)curriculum for elementary and middle school youth to participate in small group mentoring sessions. The focus of these sessions is to enhance skills in self-management, relationship building, responsible decision-making, internalizing behavior, externalizing behavior, coping mechanisms, and building resilience. Develop and recruit High School Bigs to engage high school age youth as mentors for elementary age youth. Develop, update, and deliver the Mentor U program and its resources to support students in graduating, exploring post-secondary education and workforce opportunities, and leaving high school with a clear plan for their future. Develop, update, and deliver the Big Futures program and its resources to support older youth, ages 18 to 24, maintain a relationship with their Big as they navigate one of the most pivotal times in their lives

• the transition into young adulthood and develop skills in education, career exploration and readiness, housing and independent living skills, financial literacy, and self-care and management.

Develop, update, and deliver structured activities and events for matches in five critical youth development areas: Recreation, Education, Arts and Culture, Civic Engagement, and Health and Fitness, (Project REACH). Manage an annual calendar of activities and events. Create and implement facilitation guides for each activity and event to support mentors and the achievement of positive youth outcomes. Conduct surveys, match meetings, contacts, support and closures, providing referrals to appropriate agencies when problems are encountered, and ongoing assessment of the match relationship, with a focus on trauma informed practices, match relationship development, child safety, privacy, positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction. Partner with staff, school staff and community/corporate partners to develop curriculum and program year calendar. Lead orientation and training sessions for teachers, volunteer mentors, families, students, and businesses. Maintain documentation to assure accountability, effectiveness, and efficiency. Collect data of clients enrolled to include outcomes, attendance, disciplinary issues, and grades. Other duties as assigned. Successful candidates in this process will meet the following requirements 5+ years of experience in nonprofit, at-risk youth programs, and/or teaching, child and/or adult relationship dynamics, professional familiarity with child development, family function/dysfunction, trauma informed care, and interpersonal communication preferred. Strong planning, assessment, decision making, exercising good judgment independently, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as a strong understanding non-verbal and body language skills. Ability to handle stressful situations and work in a fast-paced environment Relationship development experience and proven ability to form and sustain strong relationships with adults and children of all backgrounds and ages. Proven ability to work with confidential information. Ability to related well in multicultural environments, follow through/up in a timely manner, detail oriented when collecting data to draw solid conclusions, and demonstrated patience with a confident and calming presence. Bachelor's degree required with preference of degree in education, social work, social sciences, human resources, interpersonal communication or related field.
