DESIGN PROJECT MANAGER
Interior Design & Construction Studio Del Mar, California | On-Site Full-Time
ABOUT US
We are a high-end boutique interior design studio based in Del Mar, California, specializing in new construction and full-scope renovation projects for luxury residential homes. We handle everything from interior design and FF&E procurement to construction management and trade coordination. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a uniquely skilled Design Project Manager who can bridge the world of design and construction management with equal confidence and expertise.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is not a standard design role, and it is not a standard project management role. It is both. You will own projects from concept through final installation — developing design, leading client relationships, managing trades and schedules, and ensuring every detail is executed to the highest standard. You thrive with minimal guidance, take real ownership of your work, and bring the kind of judgment and presence that makes everyone around you better.
WHO YOU ARE
We can teach software and processes. What we cannot teach is the judgment, presence, and work ethic that makes someone exceptional in this role.
The right person:
Reads a room quickly — you pick up on what a client needs, what a project requires, and what the team is working through, often before anyone says a word Thinks ahead and acts on it — you notice what needs to happen next and take care of it without being asked Communicates clearly and professionally — your emails, meeting notes, and conversations with clients and trades positively reflect our studio Keeps things moving — you manage your time well, juggle competing priorities without drama, and follow through on what you say you will do Has sharp attention to detail — you catch things others miss and you care about getting it right, whether it is a spec sheet, a material selection, or a site visit Brings good energy — you are collaborative, easy to be around, and the kind of person who makes the team better Takes ownership — when something is yours, you see it through; when something goes sideways, you solve it Is calm under pressure — quick to problem-solve and steady when things don't go as planned
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Design Lead projects from concept development through final installation, maintaining design intent at every stage Work with design team to develop space plans, design concepts, material palettes, FF&E selections, and construction documents Prepare client presentations — budget sheets, interior schedules, renderings, and material boards Conduct site visits to review progress, coordinate with trades, and ensure execution meets the design Construction & Site Management Manage and oversee construction schedules from start to finish, with a strong understanding of construction sequencing and trade coordination Conduct regular on-site visits to direct subcontractors, monitor progress, and ensure work meets quality standards and design intent Identify and troubleshoot on-site problems and make decisions that keep projects moving forward Client & Project Coordination Serve as the primary point of contact for clients — managing expectations, communicating updates, and building trust throughout the project Maintain and oversee project calendars, ensuring all milestones, meetings, and deadlines are tracked and communicated Manage FF&E procurement including pricing, purchase orders, order tracking, and delivery logistics Maintain accurate project documentation including specs, schedules, and correspondence Contribute to a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Required 7+ years of experience in interior design with a strong residential portfolio demonstrating range in style and project scope Demonstrated knowledge of residential construction — sequencing, trade coordination, and on-site management (commercial construction experience does not apply) Project management experience — you have run a project from kickoff to installation Solid knowledge of construction sequencing and how design decisions affect the build Deep familiarity with interior furnishings, vendors, and the procurement process Proficiency in Revit or AutoCAD Strong technical skills including space planning, code compliance, and construction detailing Excellent written and verbal communication skills and professional email etiquette Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Apple iWork Preferred College degree in interior design, construction management, or a closely related field Experience with Studio Designer or similar design management software SketchUp proficiency or hand-sketching ability Background in luxury residential or high-end boutique design/build environments
WHAT WE OFFER
On-site full-time schedule: Monday-Thursday 8am-5:00pm, Friday 8am-12pm Competitive salary based on experience Medical benefits Competitive PTO, paid holidays, and sick time 401k matching after 1-year anniversary A studio with an ocean view A team that takes their work seriously and has a good time doing it Real opportunity to grow with a studio that is expanding
