Project Manager — Griffin Welding Waterbury, CT | Full-Time | $130,000-$140,000/year About the Role Griffin Welding is seeking an experienced, client-facing Project Manager to own the customer relationship and paper trail for our steel fabrication projects, including DOT (Department of Transportation) steel fabrication work. This role manages submittals, customer communication, and project documentation from award through closeout, working alongside (not over) our Production Management team to keep jobs moving through the shop. The PM does not direct shop floor operations — production scheduling and shop labor remain under Production Management. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary client-facing point of contact for customers, DOT representatives, engineers, and inspectors throughout the life of each project Manage all submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation, and track them through approval Communicate proactively with customers on project status, schedule, and any issues that arise; manage expectations and resolve concerns Review project specifications, drawings, and DOT compliance requirements to confirm scope and contract obligations are understood and documented Develop and manage project budgets and timelines; track costs, billing, and change orders and identify variances Coordinate with Production Management to understand shop capacity and status and keep customers informed — without directing shop labor, sequencing, or production scheduling, which remain the responsibility of Production Management Manage material procurement, vendor relationships, and subcontractor coordination Ensure required safety and quality documentation is in place across all project phases Identify potential project risks or delays and proactively communicate and resolve them with customers and Production Management Conduct site visits as needed to support customer relationships and confirm delivered work meets specifications Qualifications Proven experience as a Project Manager in structural steel fabrication, welding, or heavy construction; experience with DOT steel fabrication projects strongly preferred Strong client-facing communication skills, with a track record of managing customer relationships through project completion Experience managing submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and engineering specifications Strong understanding of project budgeting, scheduling, and cost control Comfortable coordinating closely with a separate Production Management team without directing shop floor work Proficiency with project management and scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Procore, or similar) Working knowledge of DOT specifications, AWS welding codes, and industry quality/safety standards Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as needed Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered Compensation This is a full-time position based in Waterbury, CT, with an annual salary range of $130,000-$140,000, commensurate with experience.
