Project Manager Job Description The Project Manager leads multiple construction projects from initial concept through closeout, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. This role partners closely with clients to understand their vision and functional needs, collaborates with an in-house design team to shape project solutions, and oversees all aspects of construction administration and financial performance. Responsibilities Lead and manage multiple construction projects at various stages, ensuring smooth progress and high-quality results. Collaborate directly with clients to understand their vision, functional requirements, and budget goals, and translate these into actionable project plans. Work closely with the in-house design team to develop drawings, specifications, and material selections that align with client objectives and project constraints. Administer construction contracts, including reviewing and managing terms, scopes, and change orders throughout the project lifecycle. Coordinate project schedules and milestones, ensuring that all phases from design through construction and closeout remain on track. Monitor safety and quality standards on projects, ensuring adherence to company policies, building codes, and industry best practices. Drive project financial performance by developing and managing budgets, cost projections, and billing to maintain profitability and financial control. Secure all necessary permits, licenses, and approvals, and ensure ongoing compliance with building, safety, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with estimating and bidding teams to support accurate proposals and preconstruction planning. Partner with field teams and site personnel to align construction activities with project plans, design intent, and client expectations. Proactively identify and address project risks and issues, including weather delays, design changes, and unforeseen conditions. Develop creative solutions to project challenges that minimize schedule and cost impacts while maintaining quality and client satisfaction. Support project closeout activities, including final inspections, punch lists, documentation, and handover to the client. Contribute to a collaborative project management culture by sharing best practices and supporting colleagues within the project management team. Essential Skills At least 5 years of project management experience, preferably in the construction industry. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Business is preferred. Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management. Construction management expertise, including field experience and familiarity with construction means, methods, and sequencing. Experience managing change orders and their impact on project scope, schedule, and budget. Ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams including design, estimating, bidding, and field operations. Proven ability to administer contracts and manage relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders. Strong understanding of building codes, safety requirements, and permitting processes. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and internal teams. Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to project challenges. Additional Skills & Qualifications Degree in civil engineering or construction management is strongly relevant for the role. Experience with design-build delivery methods is strongly preferred. Experience managing industrial or healthcare construction projects is strongly preferred. Experience with a variety of project types such as manufacturing, distilleries, K-12, healthcare, renovations, and expansions is beneficial. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and quality. Comfort working on projects ranging in size from approximately $2 million to $25 million. Strong client service orientation and the ability to build long-term relationships. Interest in working within a full design-build environment alongside an in-house design team. Work Environment The role follows a hybrid field and office schedule, with approximately two days per week in the office and three days per week dedicated to site visits. Most projects are located within a roughly three-hour radius of the office, making the majority of site visits day trips. When overnight travel is required, it typically occurs about every two weeks and not for every project. The project management team consists of approximately 18-20 professionals, offering a collaborative and supportive peer group. Projects typically range from about $2 million to $25 million in value, with renovations and expansions forming a significant portion of the work. The company operates as a full design-build firm with a diverse portfolio across manufacturing, distilleries, K-12, healthcare, and other sectors. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lexington, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $51.00 - $60.00/hr.
